I would like to ask readers for financial assistance.
Not for me.
For him:
Not for me.
For him:
I've started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for legal fees. Any support helps. Together let's protect free speech 🤝 https://t.co/KGPnPWVknM— Michael Bueckert (@mbueckert) February 27, 2019
Michael Bueckert is a graduate student at Carleton University who is being sued for what I would regard to be an accurate assessment of the Orwellian-named "uOttawa Students for Free Speech":
An executive of the "uOttawa Students for Free Speech," who was consulted by Doug Ford on changes to student fees, is threatening to sue me for suggesting in a blog that he may hold alt-right ideological views due to his association with Gavin McInnes. https://t.co/RFOKtRyfMk pic.twitter.com/iGsgNtkBbw— Michael Bueckert (@mbueckert) February 22, 2019
I'm at a loss at how it is "defamation" to imply that somebody might be alt-right, when they freely associate with alt-right and extremist figures. The "cease-and-desist" gave me less than 72 hours to cough up $2000 and a retraction if I want to prevent a lawsuit. pic.twitter.com/lYMJUqDfzh— Michael Bueckert (@mbueckert) February 22, 2019
Here's my response. There's no way to know what is in his heart. I'm willing to issue a retraction if he publicly distances himself from Gavin McInnes's racism. pic.twitter.com/A4Bb5EEX2y— Michael Bueckert (@mbueckert) February 22, 2019
Michele Di Franco of the "uOttawa Students for Free Speech" (who was consulted by Doug Ford on changes to student fees) is suing me for $150,000 because I criticized his association with Gavin McInnes and other extremist at-right personalities https://t.co/eH30xqS81c— Michael Bueckert (@mbueckert) February 27, 2019
Press release: uOttawa Free Speecher initiates lawsuit claiming $150,000.00 for defamation for being called 'alt-right' on Twitter by a Carleton Grad Student #cdnpoli #onpoli pic.twitter.com/DpyOCvAcS4— Michael Bueckert (@mbueckert) February 28, 2019
Mr. Bueckert is a passionate social justice advocate opposing the efforts of the Ford government in Ontario and has been one of the more effective folks on Twitter at exposing the links between racists and "mainstream politicians" as well as the connection between the so-called "free speechers" and the alt-right. And because of this, he has become a target.
He isn't alone.
In fact there seems to be a full court press to silence those who are exposing the haters for who they really are:
.@facebook has decided our ***page photo*** violates their TOS and has now deleted the page entirely.— Yellow Vests Canada Exposed (@VestsCanada) March 1, 2019
They allow various #YellowVestsCanada pages and groups to operate. These pages are filled with threats, bigotry, and hate. Members of that movement have been charged. #cdnpoli pic.twitter.com/Rd0pZ95gx6
Mark Friesen, #yellowvestscanada convoy organizer wants our twitter page shut down. Because YVC believe in free speech of course. He also goes by the grizzly patriot. I think grizzly hypocrite is more suitable. pic.twitter.com/Othq0P6CVb— Yellow Vests Canada Exposed (@VestsCanada) March 1, 2019
He’s also a PPC official hopeful. Why should anyone elect a government representative that doesn’t believe in free speech for anyone except those who agree with him? #cdnpoli #ppc #hypocrite pic.twitter.com/FKiLcH0vcD— Yellow Vests Canada Exposed (@VestsCanada) March 1, 2019
Facebook removed the Yellow Vests Canada Exposed Facebook page due to complaints by members of the reactionary Yellow Vest Canada. In the meantime, the Yellow Vests Canada page is still up:
2. contd.— Yellow Vests Canada Exposed (@VestsCanada) March 1, 2019
• a YV who was just arrested for threats
• countless threats against the PM
• countless threats against others
• pervasive bigotry of all kinds @facebook allows them to organize.
If a tragedy occurs this election cycle, they are partly to blame. #cdnpoli
1. And here are approximately... *checks notes* 140 comments agreeing with hanging the PM from Yellow Vest Rebellion. #cdnpoli #YellowVestsCanada— Yellow Vests Canada Exposed (@VestsCanada) March 3, 2019

David Petersen of Nipawin, SK was arrested for threatening to kill @JustinTrudeau and blow up parliament. Do you think it might be this guy? .@ElectionsCan_E this is concerning. I hope there are policies in place to filter out temp staff who may be challenging voters on the basis of race, ethnicity, or country of origin (aka discrimination). h/t @VestsCanada #cdnpoli pic.twitter.com/kJMdG98Ug4— Evan Balgord (@ebalgord) March 3, 2019
These groups aren't concerned at all with "freedom of speech" or "freedom of expression" in any real sense other than their OWN freedom from criticism.
I would ask readers to contribute to Mr. Bueckert's legal battle because it will have long term consequences.
