Reitmeier: Life in Prison

Before his friends and family begin caterwauling about the great injustice of imprisoning Robert Reitmeier for murder, remember this.

Reitmeier is eligible for parole in 13 years. As such there is a possibility he could be released before he turns 40.

On the other hand, in 13 years Mark Mariani will still be dead. There's no second chance for him.

Robert Reitmeier gets life in beating death of Calgary man

No chance of parole for 13 years for neo-Nazi

Self-proclaimed white supremacist Robert Reitmeier has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years in the 2010 beating death of a Calgary man.
Mark Mariani, 47, was beaten in an alley behind a strip mall in northwest Calgary before collapsing by his vehicle in a nearby parking lot in October 2010.

Reitmeier was found guilty of second-degree murder in November.

His friend, Tyler Sturrup, is already serving a life sentence with no parole for 10 years after pleading guilty in March.

During the trial, the jury heard intercepted phone calls between Reitmeier and Sturrup where they discussed concerns about police and media attention on the crime.

The court also viewed surveillance footage from nearby stores that shows a woman and two men entering and exiting a business near the crime scene the morning Mariani was killed. A Calgary detective identified the men as Reitmeier and Sturrup.

The Crown argued during the trial that Mariani was the victim of a seemingly random, unprovoked attack who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We hope that the Mariani family will be able to find some peace with this sentence. And when Reitmeier and Sturrup are up for parole, we hope they have a lot of support in keeping them both in prison where they belong.

I will be there every chance I get to make sure that he stays in jail for as long as possible. Not in hate but to make sure no one else is hurt the way my family and I have been hurt.

Maybe you can finally leave this man and his family alone now. Seems you've done little more over the years than interfere in their lives and harass them.
Here's to hoping...

There is no justice enough for what has happened to Mark. We will fight tooth and nail and make sure they both DO NOT get released on parole .

The family and close friends have lost a loving and caring soul. Rest in peace until we meet again Mark.

The heading should be that this scum will serve a minimum of 13 years in prison. Life sentences in Canada have no freakin` meaning.

Feel so sorry for the family of Mark Mariani.

If he obeys the rules and regulations, he deserves to get parole when it comes up…just like anybody else. Didn't see him get declared a dangerous offender. Im sure HIS family will be there also, to argue his side.Just saying.

Probably should post the name of the kid on here, bit wrong really. Children should be left out of it.

We assume you meant to say "shouldn't post...."

Yep, you're right. We missed it.
