Eric Brazau: Islamophobe, Racist, and Liar

On June 21, the following flyer was found on the notice board of a Toronto public library:

The person who posted the flyer did not have permission from the library staff to do so. The flyer itself was also a bald-faced lie:

Edited to protect identity of the individual who
posted this and the group where it was posted.

The person responsible was Eric Brazau:

Eric Brazau has been discussed a number of times on this blog as well as in the MSM with regard to what can be described as blood libels directed towards Muslim-Canadians and Islam in general:

He is also an associated of other hate-mongers including Ron Banerjee, Kevin "Poodle" Johnston, Lynn Redden, and formerly Sandra Solomon before their falling out:

Brazau tried to justify his lie when challenged by James Sears' associate Lawrence McCurry:

First, when Lawrence McCurry appears to be the rational person in the discussion, that says a great deal about the character of the other person. Second, what?!?!

I could go on and on about Brazau's Islamophobic antics, but it should suffice it to post only a few recent examples for those who aren't familiar with him. First regarding the attack in Toronto that left 10 dead and 16 injured, Brazau posted the following:

When challenged....

.... Brazau didn't respond.

Probably because the attack was perpetrated by someone more in line with Brazau's ideological viewpoints.

He also posted the following criticism of the British and Canadian governments regarding their respective immigration ministers:

What is clear is that Brazau is anti-Muslim and that he views every Muslim as an extremist.

But don't for a moment think that he rejects religion playing a primary role in government decisions so long as it is the religion that he subscribes to.

As Brazau writes above, he was a candidate in the most recent Ontario election running as a candidate for the fringe Cultural Action Party:

Brazau wrote the following (and repeats himself, incidentally) regarding his plans should he be elected to office:

Suffice it to say, he performed poorly:

However his post on June 4 also hints that Brazau has embraced racial animus. Other posts seem to confirm this:

Kevin Johnston and Ron Banerjee: "Hallmarks of Hate"

Back in August 2017, Kevin "Poodle" Johnston and Ron Banerjee (Islamophobic, misogynistic, and racist bigots who have been featured on these pages several times already) were sued by Mohamad Fakih, the owner of Paramount Fine Foods, falsely claiming that Mr. Fakih had ties to extremism. Since then Johnston has continued his vendetta posting more videos attacking the integrity of Mr. Fakih and Banerjee hasn't let up either.

Yesterday, we learned that their efforts have been rewarded.... at least if your name is Mohamad Fakih:
Fakih sued for defamation; Johnston and Banerjee wrote in their defence statements that they were exercising their freedom of expression and raising issues of public interest — namely, their objection to the federal government’s $10.5 million settlement paid to Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr.
But before the case has even gone to trial, a Superior Court of Justice judge has already delivered a preliminary victory for Fakih, ruling Banerjee’s videotaped comments “involve hallmarks of hate” and do not relate to a matter of public interest.
This also means his statements are unprotected by a 2015 Ontario law designed to stop nuisance lawsuits aimed at silencing free expression over matters of public interest. Banerjee invoked the law to try to quash the suit but the judge ruled that allowing him to justify his comments by claiming public interest would be “trivializing” the law’s objectives.
My personal favourite part of this is when Benerjee and Johnston claim that they have never promoted hatred and that Banerjee appears to have thrown Johnston under the bus to try and save his own ass:
Both Banerjee and Johnston have denied the allegations against them in their statements of defence. Banerjee said he has never promoted hatred against any group or people; Johnston — who is also currently facing hate crime charges — said any allegation that he “ever promoted hate is a fabrication.” With respect to his statements that Paramount Fine Foods only served people who are “jihadist” or raped their wives, Banerjee said the comments were “satirical”and published by Johnston, not him.
The ruling can be found here in its entirety.

Truth be told, things haven't been going especially well for Kevin "Poodle" Johnston of later. We already know about the hate crime charges which are of course quite serious (and for which this current legal ruling may very play a role). His claim to have been assaulted at a June 3, 2017 Islamophobic rally were dismissed because he proved to be an unreliable and uncooperative witness. Later he had a hissy fit when Twitter deleted several of his accounts when he was reported by a number of people (yours truly included) for violating the terms and services; back in May he sent a letter suggesting he would be suing Twitter and some of those who reported him for denying him his right to free speech which further indicates he has no idea what is meant by this concept:

Doug Ford and the Proud Goys: Yet ANOTHER White Nationalist Connection

ARC has already published articles that connect the Progressive Conservative Premier-designate Doug Ford to a host of white nationalist groups and individuals.

A few such examples include Faith Goldy:

Kevin "Poodle" Johnston (who is currently facing a number of legal entanglements including hate crime charges.... based on a recent post on Facebook, it seems all is not going so well for "The Jackal"):

Self-proclaimed ethno-nationalist and white nationalist Ronny Cameron:

And, of course, the Proud Boys:

Well we can now add another group that Doug Ford inexplicably (if one wishes to be generous) doesn't seem to mind being associated with:

Readers may remember the last article ARC wrote about regarding the Proud Goys, a short-lived breakaway faction of the Proud Boys. On July 15, 2017, members of the Proud Boys attended a rally in support of the military douchnozzles young gentlemen who disrupted a First Nations' ceremony in Halifax on July 1. And among the other participants was Paul Fromm who managed to waddle to the nearest megaphone because Paulie has to promote Paulie:

Edson mosque set on fire; Islamophobes celebrate

A small mosque serving 15 families was the target of an arsonist on June 16 not long after evening prayers:
The three people who were praying inside had left the mosque and were still in the parking lot when a fire started at the building's south entrance at around 11 p.m. on June 16.
Surveillance footage recorded by the mosque's security cameras captured the flames as well as a person in a dark hoodie leaving the property with what appears to be a red jerrycan shortly after 11 p.m.
....
"It was quite brazen," Baterdouk said. "Typically you would think that someone who wants to commit arson or vandalism, if they see people ... they probably would change their mind. But this individual, it does not seem to be a concern for him.

"That makes it a little bit more scary to see the fact that the individual knows that there's people on the property, whether they're inside or not, and he still went ahead with it."
....
The mosque is working with RCMP to investigate the fire, said Edson Islamic Society board member Jocelyn Pettitt.

The society is not treating the fire as a hate crime until police share more information, she said.
"Our doors are always open," Pettitt said. "If there is any concern or feelings of malice or confusion about our faith and our religion, come talk to us or any member of the Muslim community at the mosque. We have plenty of information and they're always willing to answer questions."
The incident has been condemned by a number of politicians including but not limited to the premier, leader of the UCP and Alberta Party, and the mayor of Edson:

These are the reactions that one would hope to see from everyone.

Of course, this blog covers people who wallow in hatred and their reactions were quite different and included congratulatory statements directed to the suspect, wishes the the building had been occupied, threats that more such attacks will occur in the future, and claims that it was a "false flag" or committed by Muslims:

The Far Right Continues to Embrace Anti-Democratic Ethnic Nationalism and Authoritarianism (With Northern Alliance Cameo)

It has been an interesting week in the news. Donald Trump attacks traditional allies including Canada (specifically the Canadian prime minister) and his supporters in this country eat it up. Some of them have openly advocated for the invasion of the country to remove the Liberal government by force. Others "merely" want him to impose punitive tariffs on the country so that Canadians are made to suffer for the folly of electing the Liberals. Most of those self-described "patriots" ARC keeps an eye on unironically continue to refer to Justin Trudeau as a traitor. In the meantime these same "patriots" celebrate when Trump refers to a man who inherited his dictatorship from his father and grandfather and who's government is responsible mass execution of dissidents and the imprisonment of anyone who is believed to oppose the regime as being "tough" but who still "loves his people."

Really though, none of this is at all surprising as these elements of the far right in Canada, the United States, and many other countries have openly embraced ethnic nationalism and authoritarianism despite still claiming to favor democratic freedoms.... so long as those democratic freedoms are only afforded to people who look and think like they do.

I recently read a very interesting article that discussed the phenomenon in the United States. Research indicates that intolerance of minorities cause much of the majority population (white) to reject the principles of democracy when it is seen as benefiting otherwise marginalized peoples and results in a willingness to embrace authoritarian forms of control that will maintain their dominance even in the face of demographic changes:
A new study, however, suggests that the main threat to our democracy may not be the hardening of political ideology, but rather the hardening of one particular political ideology. Political scientists Steven V. Miller of Clemson and Nicholas T. Davis of Texas A&M have released a working paper titled "White Outgroup Intolerance and Declining Support for American Democracy." Their study finds a correlation between white American's intolerance, and support for authoritarian rule. In other words, when intolerant white people fear democracy may benefit marginalized people, they abandon their commitment to democracy.
Miller and Davis used information from the World Values Survey, a research project organized by a worldwide network of social scientists which polls individuals in numerous countries on a wide range of beliefs and values. Based on surveys from the United States, the authors found that white people who did not want to have immigrants or people of different races living next door to them were more likely to be supportive of authoritarianism. For instance, people who said they did not want to live next door to immigrants or to people of another race were more supportive of the idea of military rule, or of a strongman-type leader who could ignore legislatures and election results.
The World Values Survey data used is from the period 1995 to 2011 — well before Donald Trump's 2016 run for president. It suggests, though, that Trump's bigotry and his authoritarianism are not separate problems, but are intertwined. When Trump calls Mexicans "rapists," and when he praises authoritarian leaders, he is appealing to the same voters.
Given demographic changes, the far right find themselves in a bit of a bottle-neck so they have had to be much more creative in maintaining control, and this often means subverting the most basic of democratic practices, the vote:
White people continue to decrease as a percentage of the U.S. population; at some point, it's going to be impossible to win a national, democratic American election with a platform that alienates people of color. The GOP, seeing their coming demographic apocalypse, has pushed voter ID laws and other barriers to voting to try to prevent black and other minority voters from getting to the polls. In Wisconsin, Republican Governor Scott Walker even attempted to delay elections for state seats that he believed Democrats would win.
There are, of course, even more extreme positions:
Miller and Davis' paper quotes alt right, neo-fascist leader Richard Spencer, who in a 2013 speech declared: "We need an ethno-state so that our people can ‘come home again’… We must give up the false dreams of equality and democracy." Ethnic cleansing is impossible as long as marginalized people have enough votes to stop it. But this roadblock disappears if you get rid of democracy. Spencer understands that white rule in the current era essentially requires totalitarianism. That's the logic of fascism.
We've been hearing more and more about the desire to create an "ethno-state" here in Canada from a number of groups and individuals including Faith Goldy and Ronny Cameron. The patently undemocratic attitudes that would deny certain Canadians their democratic rights and create a tiered system of citizenship was also proposed by Steven Myatt recently:

Yeah, I know the last few articles have been a bit Myatt-centric. Just hear me out on this one.

We can laugh (and I did) about the clumsiness of Myatt talking about running "in politics" as well as the fact that this is a position that is so patently unconstitutional the courts would strike such a law down immediately (this assuming that Myatt would ever find himself in a position to enact such a law which seems less likely than me beating Justify in a footrace). It would also ironically disallow the first two prime ministers of the country from being involved in politics as well as numerous other Canadians who have emigrated from somewhere else.

But let's be honest here. Myatt is NOT talking about someone who looks like this:

Conservative MP Tom Kmiec, July 31, 1981 in GdaƄsk, Poland
Myatt IS talking about someone who looks like this:

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, born January 2, 1979 in Scarborough, ON
The truth of this can be seen in one of Myatt's responses:

Well, when it comes to the House of Commons and the Senate federally, there were a total of 56 who are citizens of Canada through naturalization. However it is more clear that Myatt thinks that some people "look" Canadian and others don't. Considering he had 46 people seemingly agreeing with him, it seems that there are others who feel the same way.

One of those people is someone we haven't seen in a long, long, time:

That would be Tyler Chilcott, formerly of the now defunct neo-Nazi Northern Alliance based out of London, ON:

Jason KING, David RUUD, WINNICKI, Tyler CHILCOTT,
Tomas SZYMANSKI at Zundel demo in front of Metro West
On the archived website, Chitcott had published articles with titles such as "Wholistic Racialism", "Please Rise and Sing", and "The Native Conflict" as well as some really horrible poetry.

Congratulations Steven. Tyler Chilcott likes the cut of your jib.

The first person who posted "Blood and Earth" hearkens to the "Blood and Soil" ethnic nationalism heard at the Charlottesville rally last summer and, even more prescient,  was a slogan used by the Nazis (Blut und Boden).

Steven Myatt Slams Northern Guard's Nick Gallant

First, I would be remiss if I didn't post Gallant's second video in which he spends a little over eight minutes complaining about anti-racists and how ARC treats him while at the same time claiming he never thinks about us:

Yeah, I know. I sort of beat a dead horse at the end with all the video clips. I had a little too much fun with it, but it did serve as a reminder of the awesomeness of Fatboy Slim.

In any case, this was the second of two videos Gallant posted on the same day. ARC posted that first video in the article detailing the Northern Guard's falling out with Steven Myatt; Gallant was very blunt, specific, and kind comically over the top in describing his beef with Myatt while also strongly implying that others who have been critical of Gallant are also leaving what is increasingly looking like a shrinking ship.

Yesterday, Myatt responded though initially he didn't name the Northern Guard by name:

He was later asked specifically about the Northern Guard. His rationale for rejecting them was most enlightening:

I can only imagine that Myatt read about the KKK link to the Northern Guard through ARC's article on the subject. This, and all the other times that these far-right dotards provide links to ARC articles (including the Canadian Combat Coalition, La Meute, and many others) in order to inform their membership sort of hurts their claim that ARC is "fake news."

Myatt's broadside also calls into question his relationships with Georges Massaad who appeared to be involved with the Northern Guard at least as of last week as well as Ronny Cameron who seems to be close to the hate group as well. In fact there are some posting on Myatt's profile who have expressed their concern about Cameron:

Next I expect Gallant to post a video warning Myatt that he's going to be put on notice.... but not actually do anything because Nick Gallant is sort of a weak leader.

You know who isn't weak though?

That's right. Christopher Walken:

Steven Myatt and Northern Guard: Friends Off!

You know, it really is funny how quickly the individuals and groups we cover on the blog fall out with each other often over incredibly petty things.

Case in point, back in October, Steven Myatt and a number of Northern Guard members from New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario traveled to Toronto to attend an event billed as an anti-Trudeau protest (which was in fact a cover as the event was nakedly racist in nature) organized by Ronny Cameron at Nathan Phillips Square:

Later Myatt, Cameron, members of La Meute, and Northern Guard members joined the JDL to attend a presentation by Islamophobe and conspiracy nutter Pamela Geller and Ezra Levant. It was around this time that he received a patch from the Northern Guard which he seemed quite proud of for some inexplicable reason:

Oh, but he wasn't simply a newly patched member of the Northern Guard. Myatt, along with his friend Georges Massaad who is still active with the hate group, were given a position of some responsibility promoting the hate group:

Yeah, you do have to be on the page to see it.

Funny that, eh?

Anyways, since then I hadn't really seen a lot of activity by Myatt on the Northern Guard group, though I didn't really give it a great deal of thought either. However at the end of May something interesting occurred on Ronny Cameron's page:

Much of the discussion focused on Cameron's divisiveness which has sort of become par for the course the past several months:

FYI, "the disease... the cure" line is just as corny as it was in the
 movie "Cobra"
starring Sylvester Stallone and Brigitte Nielsen

There was one part that caught my attention though:

That was rather interesting to say the least.

On a whim I decided to contact Chris Maybee (listed as the VP of the National group) and the other two members, sending them both this message though not necessarily expecting a response:

There was no response from any of the three posting on Cameron's board, however just a few days ago Nick Gallant decided come out of his hole after not seeing his shadow and respond to the question.
