OTTAWA — Canada’s top court will not hear an appeal in a case involving a neo-Nazi leader’s web postings that could have determined the power of Canada’s quasi-judicial human rights tribunals.

Regina’s Terry Tremaine, the head of the National-Socialist Party of Canada and a former university math lecturer, was found in contempt of court by the Federal Court of Appeal in November 2011 for refusing to remove web postings he made about blacks, Jews and First Nations people.

He had previously flouted a ruling by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal that found his postings were hate speech and ordered that he stop posting discriminatory messages and pay a $4,000 fine.

The Devil You Know?

Following the Alberta election, I really do have to admit some surprise at the outcome.

Okay, a lot of surprise.

Like many, I fully expected the 41 year PC dynasty to end last night. Of course, we now know how wrong the polls were.

But looking back perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised?

After all, a significant portion of Alberta electors were undecided even as the Wildrose took a commanding lead among those who had decided. Evidently, most decided to go with the devil they knew.

And we can't discount the controversies that emerged out of the campaign, such as this, and this and this.

We aren't going to rejoice that the Progressive Conservatives are going to extend their 41 year rule of the province of Alberta, but we are going to be thankful for our friends in Alberta that they will not be under the yolk of Wildrose either.

We can also be thankful that Ted Morton lost his seat. Easily the most conservative member of the PC family (and someone who would have been at home in the Wildrose Party), his departure might move the PCs more to the center.

And we are also thankful for this from our friends at Free Dominion:

Their tears of rage and anguish nourish us. If we could, we would lick them from their faces and call it sweet ambrosia.

Still, this doesn't mean our friends in Alberta shouldn't work at putting a real alternative in power next time. There's something a bit incestuous about having a very conservative party in power with an even more conservative (perhaps reactionary) party as the Official Opposition.

Paul Fromm: The Veil of Respectability Slips a Little More

You know it's amazing what a few weeks off will do for one's mental well-being. On April 1 when I announced I was taking a break from the blog, I really wasn't intending on coming back, at least not any time soon. But after a weak of tanning, reading, and drinking, I felt a lot better. And when I returned from my vacation, I learned that Kyle McKee, Bernie Miller, and one other dude had been arrested.

So I'm back. Miss me?

One person (among the many I'm sure) who hasn't missed me is Paulie. I wanted to send him a note of Facebook letting hims know I was back, but sadly, found only this:

Kyle McKee Denied Bail

Okay, it isn't at all surprising that McKee has been denied bail considering the severity of the charges and his past history of running from the police. But this section is interesting to us:

There was a court-ordered publication ban on the evidence and arguments heard during the bail hearing as well as on the reasons for the judge’s decision.

Curious. His history of running would be enough to deny him bail, but there must be something especially juicy if there's already a publication ban on the evidence, the arguments heard to keep him in jail, and the reasons for the decision.

We have some suspicions why (more educated guesses) though we are more than likely not correct and, even if we were, we wouldn't publish them so as not to violate the ban.

Still, we're very interested to learn what's up.

Bail denied for white supremacist leader

Bail was denied Friday for white supremacist group leader Kyle McKee on charges for an allegedly racially motivated attack in Mill Woods and a stash of guns in Calgary.

McKee, a 26-year-old Calgary man, sought bail while making his first appearance in Edmonton’s Provincial Court.

Extremism in Wildrose

Well, what our newest member lacks in total post, he certainly makes up in impact.

Naberius200's article on Link Byfield's association with white supremacist Paul Fromm has resulted in more than 3000 hits since it was published, becoming the third most viewed article on this blog in only a little over 2 weeks. No doubt that is in large part due to the interest in the upcoming provincial election which, for the first time in more than 40 years, is actually a contest. The most recent poll numbers we've read place Wild Rose 7 points higher than the Progressive Conservatives, a dynasty that has ruled the province since 1971. While it appears that Wildrose is poised to form the next government, a significant percentage of the provinces electors are still uncertain.

Recent statements by some Wildrose candidates might give some Albertans cause for some concern.

* Our friend Harry doesn't believe that Link Byfield himself harbours racist views himself (though even if that is true, we think that any association with Paul Fromm should result in electors questioning one's judgment) but an examination of other candidates indicate a worrisome lack of tolerance:

I know someone very well who used to work for Mr. Byfield at his magazine, and according to them, racism was not tolerated in that workplace, despite whatever views were held or expressed.

Fromm gets around quite a bit, and has made a career out of misrepresenting himself to others and hitching his wagon to "freedom and right wing patriotic causes" so I would hesitate at tarring Mr. Byfield just because he was seen sharing a podium with Fromm. 

Ron Leech: “I think as a Caucasian I have an advantage... When different community leaders such as a Sikh leader or a Muslim leader speaks, they really speak to their own people in many ways. As a Caucasian, I believe that I can speak to all the community.”

Allan Hunsperger: “You can live the way you were born, and if you die the way you were born, then you will suffer the rest of eternity in the lake of fire, hell, a place of eternal suffering.”

Hunsperger also thinks public eduction is godless because of efforts to protect gay youth from being bullied. Nice guy.

And these are just a few of the candidates we could look at.

One might think that the leader might want to step in and say these views are not representative of the Party.

Unless you're Danielle Smith, in which case these comments are absolutely fine. Given their human rights platform, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised?

Two members and one associate of a white supremacist group have been arrested in connection with a recent racially-motivated attack.

On March 24, two males were attacked and assaulted late at night outside of a Mill Woods liquor store. One of the males was assaulted with a bottle of liquor.

The attack occurred on the heels of a White Pride Rally held in Edmonton on the same day. Just after noon, between 15 and 20 balaclava-wearing demonstrators belonging to the group Blood and Honour began marching along Jasper Avenue waving a huge white flag that read "White Pride Worldwide."

They soon clashed with anti-racism protesters with some brief shoving and shouting before police stepped in to intervene.

Charged in connection with the liquor store attack are Kyle McKee, 26, of Calgary, Bernard Miller, 20, and Philip Badrock, 44, of St. Albert. Both Miller and Badrock are charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Kyle McKee has been in the Calgary Edmonton Remand Centre since at least April 12. Not sure why yet but there is likely a laundry list of reasons.

Byfield "Linked" To Extremist

Oh hi. First a brief introduction. I was asked by a vampire to make an occasional post while she was on hiatus. I picked the name "Naberius200" because Nos has this weird obsession with names that start with the letter "n" and the number 200. Who knows why? In any case, like the other members of the Collective (and I guess I can count myself in that number now) I'll try to keep the joint alive while Nos is on her well deserved break.

So I tried to think of an appropriate first post, and I realized that since there's an election out in Alberta, I might as well start with that.

I noticed while looking at the list of candidates for the Wildrose Party that a name jumped out at me.

Link Byfield is running in the constituency of Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock. He has been a long-time player in conservative politics in Alberta having been the editor and publisher of Alberta Report for 18 years (the magazine went under 2003). He became a, "senator in waiting" in 2004 and ran unsuccessfully in Whitecourt-Ste. Anne in the 2008 Alberta provincial election. Now in 2012 he's taking another stab at elected office. Here he is with Wildrose Party leader Danielle Smith.

Mr. Byfield, someone who's views are considered by many people to not be very mainstream in and of themselves, has also been associated with people much less photogenic and mainstream as Ms. Smith.

And no, this isn't an April Fools prank.

I'm speaking for myself right now and not for the other members of the Collective. I'm stepping away from the blog for a while. I don't know for how long I'll be gone. It might be a week or a month or longer. I have no idea. I might even decide to come back tomorrow.

But as of now, I need a break. Badly.

For years I have willingly immersed myself in a violent subculture and subjected myself to some of the worst of humanity, exposing myself to a steady diet of negativity which, will inevitably, take a toll on a person.

So I'm taking a vacation. It might be a short one, or it might be a long one. Time will tell.

There are other members of the Collective who may keep thing going, though they also have very busy lives and might not post as frequently.

But just to make it very clear, I do intend on coming back. A well rested Nosferatu is a much more effective Nosferatu.

That said, please continue sending tips, photos, and other intel. While I'm gone, there will be those individuals who will process the information. I'm taking a break, not abandoning the fight.

We had more than 46,000 hits in the month of March alone this year. We couldn't possibly abandon our faithful readers for too long.
