The Devine Residence Was Hit Again.... Sort Of....

A few weeks ago, Jason and Bonnie Devine's apartment was attacked once again when the windows of the residence were smashed out by a cinder block or a brick. A week or two later, the apartment was hit again. This time a swastika spray painted on the door.

By our count, and if we're to treat these latest cases as separate incidents, the Devine family have been attacked on six occasions since 2008, including these earlier four incidents:

However, there is a problematic twist when it comes to the most recent two attacks. We'll see if we can put this in a way that even our bonehead readers will be able to understand.

Given our years of experience dealing with boneheads we know how deficient their intelligence is, so we thought we'd provide this little service for them.

Thankfully no one is yet occupying the Devine's old place, but we do hope that the individuals who have been targeting the place for close to two years consider stopping now.

Craig Cobb Apparently No Longer Canada's Problem

It had been reported a while back that Craig Cobb had been arrested in Vancouver where he had been living since being deported from Estonia last summer. Later we learned that he may have been released. At the time we weren't certain of the reason for his arrest, though given his extreme rhetoric and association with Podblanc (which is still offline as we write this article), we figured that it had something to do with violating hate crime laws.

Last week we received a note stating that Cobb was now in Montana. Unfortunately we were a bit busy and didn't follow the lead up until today (anyone interested in being an ARC Collective intern?), but it seems that may be the case. Glenn Miller on VNN has apparently been in contact with Cobb and wrote a post providing some details last week:


At the same time, we received several messages from people who wrote that Cobb had posted a lengthy account of this arrest and his, "escape" from Canada on a racist blog. We won't post a link to the blog, but we will provide his account in full in all it's paranoid glory (spelling and grammatical errors left as he wrote them, though we included some links):

On Thursday, June 17th, I was arrested by Corporals Faulkner and Terri Wilson of the RCMP, the latter being the head of the Hate Crime Unit--and himself an unindicted murderer co-conspirator of Jeff Hughes of Nanaimo. Wilson's female partner on the "hate sqaud" [sic] had emptied her weapon into the unarmed Hughes at distance. I subsequently made a video calling the two murderers and taunting them. Doug Christie, the most renowned free speech lawyer in Canada was kind enough to consult with me from the Vancouver jail. He explained that the B.C. attorney general had to accede to the charge against me--the willful [sic] promotion of hate--which he/she eventually apparently did do...the charge, Christie stated, being considered as serious as murder nor [sic] rape in Canada, though (I believe) with merely a 3 year penalty.

Subsequently I was released and immediately began making plans for successful flight. On Dominion Day, July 1, 2010, I commenced a 30 mile cross-mountain/alpine meadow line-of-sight compass trek from Elko, BC after a 16 hour Greyhound bus trip. I arrived at Roosville, Montana border crossing at 8AM, July 3rd, having escaped from Canuckistan, The Jewish, Chinese, and East Indian People's Dominion.

It is my general belief that senior "last gasp" White elements of the US Customs and Borper [sic] Protection, Secret Service, NSA, CIA, FBI et al must be generally sympathetic--partially, tacitly aiding WN political autonomies, even without our commonly accepted knowledge. I cleared customs in between 30 to 45 minutes. There were no political questions whatsoever...just a very professional and courteous backward/spread legged disarming from my belt-hatchet--which I of course informed them I was carrying, having been on a woods trip.

Richard Fadden, the 58 year old head of Canadian Security and Intelligence Services, two weeks ago stated that foreign elements were unduly influencing/controlling provincial level and municipal level officials in multiple provinces. Later he specifically named China, and it is widely believed India and Israel are the other two manipulating nations. There are 600,000 ethnic Chinese in metropolitan Vancouver and 500,000 ethnic East Indians. Whites are a factual numerical minority.

Fadden was immediately excoriated by Bilderberger attendee BC premier Gordon Campbell and Prime Minister Gordon Campbell [we assume he meant Stephen Harper], despite Fadden's perfect reputation as a particularly conscientious cabinet level federal admin. It should be noted that known conduits to the ADL, SPLC, and AIPAC-- the Canadian Anti Racists Action-- had made online statements that Podblanc and myself were under investication [sic] by Fadden's CSIS. If this is correct, it is entirel;y [sic] possible that Fadden and/or his staff were in part inspired to release the truth of foreign control of high level Canadian officials by incisive Podblanc teaching videos.

During last week's G-20 meeting in Toronto, Ralph Nader stated on the CBC that a billion dollars had been spent on security for the few-days event--over $100,000,000 more than on security for the Vancouver Olympics, itself an outlandish sum. Nader went on to state that the event could have easily been held at a remote castle-like mansion outside of Quebec City. However, the shrieking, domineering pomp of the Rothschild Jewish mega-billionaires cabal could not have been achieved by such relative anonymity; hence, the Orwellian demonstartion [sic] of utter, overwhelming planetary dominance.

Jeff Hughes' unindicted murderer Terri Wilson of the RCMP seized, in a search of my unserviced garage hideout behind the 30-some story Plaza Landmark Hotel on Robson Street, my Macbook, two other laptops, my primary religious text, Nature's Eternal Religion, 4 cameras, a large LED spotlight, 2,250 year old swazi coin rings from the long extinct Tocharian Yuezhi and Kushan-Kunindas civilizations, the English language transcript of my Estonian trial, my US passport, and a legal woolly mammoth tusk on which I had stated in one video I planned to carve swastikas as had been found on a 10,000 year old wooly mammoth tusk in the Ukraine. I had suggested in the video I might present one of the carvings to Jeff Schoep and NSM for their highly public street work work against Mexican invaders.

During interrogation, I stated "five words" to Wilson and Faulkner approximately 150 to 250 times. Wilson told me that I "had been arrested because of the Jews". As a quick afterthought he added--"and to a lesser degree because of the blacks...and other races". He was inordinately concerned that I "wanted to found a White country".

So far, four nations have either tried and convicted me for hate speech crimes (Kingdom of Sweden convicted in absentia and Estonian in-person trial; Finland and Canada arrested and remanded for trial). We hate that which threatens that which we love. Or as Linder puts it: "The term 'racism' is genocide. It is the attempted mass murder of Whites".

I will most probably take a lesson from Terrible Tommy Metzger and Glenn Miller and run for Congress from a northwestern Montana district in an internet/door-to-door campaign in 2012, by which tuime [sic] unemployment will surely have hit Weimar 35% levels. I will run on James Bowery's 3 point platform with the simple additions of outlawing the Federal Reserve, AIPAC, ADL and SPLC. The SPLC will be investigated and its members and cash contibuters [sic] will be convicted as the bombers of OKC. As well, I will support unilaterally transferring/converting all the USA's Jewish and part-Jewish citizens into global Israeli citizens. In other words, their American citizenships [sic] will be officially changed into deported "dishonorary" [sic] and actual Israeli citizenships [sic] (whether or not Israel approves)--a service for which the White American taxpayers have pre-paid many times over through decades of extreme monetary gifts to Israel.

It is fantastical that loud-mouthed. cocksure [sic] of himself, terribly homely Jew Ken Feinberg has been named the Obama BP oil spill payout-control czar for the southern gulf states. This is roughly equivalent to Dr. William L. Pierce being appointed to admin a NYC/CT area ecological disaster. Who can forget that aged Jew Henry Kissenger [sic] was originally slotted to sanitize the Israeli 911 attack and Jew Philip D. Zelikow finally executed that lie?

I want to thank the Montana militiaman and his Jesse James-descended wife who picked me up 60 miles into my walk just outside Olney, MT. There is no public transport up here; my knee and foot were swollen.

So on the one hand we're pleased that the BC Hate Crimes Division dealt with Cobb, we are disappointed that a trial seems to be out of the question right now given he's out of the country.

Cobb later added more information regarding his, er... political aspirations:

Turns out there is a sole US representative for all Montana, so I may as well run for US Senate from Montana in 2012.

Also, one Andrew J. Bonfield--a probable Jew [lawyer] who I peered at through the glass without my glasses was curious about Creativity. I just read an interesting story in April 2010 Wired mag about Gerald Blanchard, a Canadian master thief who served less than 2 years and is currently in a Vancouver halfway house. Blanchard served less time than several "thought criminals" in the Jewish, Chinese and East Indian People's Dominion of Canuckistan.

One thing you have to laugh at is Taylor Bowles' blog. Everytime they expose him a little more, he runs over and starts belching out more generic white power essays. It's like he thinks that increasing his pro white act will sway anyone coming to his site. It's more transparent than window glass.

Now he's over there comparing how communists run candidates the right way and white nationalists do it all wrong. You ran for president and blew tens of thousands of dollars, you fucking idiot. Where do you have to stand and tell anyone about politics? Notice how the communist run for realistic offices that they are likely at least somewhat qualified to hold? I bet he blew at least 50k on his campaign. And then he'll turn around and bitch about the NSM selling records to people.

So, what was once our problem is now, sadly once again, our American friend's problem.

Paul Fromm Goes to Bat For.... Michelle Erstikaitis???: Part III

When we published our last article detailing Paulie's efforts to spring Bernardo groupie and arsonist Michelle Erstikaitis from jail, we mentioned that no where in any published document concerning her long record has there been any indication that she harbored far right beliefs (aside from her infatuation with McVeigh) and that she herself had never indicated any political views.

Hey! Guess what? Paulie has published a letter on Stormfront (as well as the Facebook group he set up in her name) in which Ms. Erstikaitis claims she's in detention because of her political beliefs:



Well that was certainly convenient.

Paulie has had to acknowledge some inconvenient facts about Ms. Erstikaitis' past. Previously, he had only mentioned that she had written a letter to Timothy McVeigh, the terrorist who murdered 168 people (including 19 children) in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. That actually wasn't a problem, as a considerable individuals in the, "White Nationalist" movement are either sympathetic to McVeigh or even support his actions. However, problems sort of arise when people actually throw this woman's name into a search engine and learn that not only did she have a thing for Bernardo, but she also tormented the mother of one of his victims (including saying she would kill the mother and yer young son). And the time she tried to burn down her apartment which put at risk a number of other residents.

But don't think for a moment these are actually a big deal. Writes Paulie:

As you can see from the wording of Sec. 753, the Dangerous Offender Law, the state may effectively lock up a person so designated and throw away the key. What is so mystifying in Miss Erstikaitis case is that her crimes have been relatively minor, except for arson, actually a suicide attempt, in her troubled teen years. She has currently been warehoused at the Vanier Detention Centre in Milton for 18 months and counting, without bsil [sic]. She’s been imprisoned longer than any conceivable sentence even if she were convicted for assault where no one was hurt. It’s hard to avoid the conclusion that she’s being punished and jailed for her VIEWS not her relatively minor DEEDS. -- Paul Fromm. Director, Canadian Association for Free Expression

Sadly for Paulie, people aren't falling into line simply because he has asked them to. As in the first article we published concerning this issue, people are beginning to ask questions, including some of Paulie's supporters.

Putting Things in Perspective For Our Neo-nazi Friends

You know that you're on the lowest rung of the social acceptability ladder when even outlaw biker gangs don't want to demean themselves to be seen with you.

The following excerpt is found in The Bandido Massacre by Peter Edwards (also author of One Dead Indian which is about the death of Dudley George):

Despite Weiner [Kellestine's] strange and violent ways, Boxer [Muscedere - head of the Canadian Bandidos] wasn't about to abandon the man who had brought him into the outlaw biker fold. As Boxer assumed the Bandidos' top Canadian post, he found he was always defending his old friend to other members. It was a public display by the Bikers Against Pedophiles group founded by Concrete Dave Weiche, the biker son of local Nazi Martin Weiche. In a symbolic message that only he could understand, Kellestine waved a Confederate flag in front of the news cameras and made a great show of moral rectitude. Toronto-area clubmates shuddered at the unseemly media freak show of Kellestine attempting to mock gays. There is an understanding that a one percenter club shouldn't get involved in any political cause, unless it was something that directly affects them, like motorcycle helmet laws. The idea is that they are supposed to be freedom-loving rebels, not bigots who try to impose their values on others. The Greater Toronto Area Bandidos worried that things like the Pride Parade debacle only destroyed whatever mystique they might have built up, and would inevitably make them targets of jokes themselves. "It makes you look like small-town hillbillies," one former Toronto area Bandido grumbled. "If you keep your mouth shut, you keep some mystique." Boxer also veered away from gay-bashing, just as he made it clear he wasn't a racist or anti-Semite. For someone who looked like a good old boy, he could be surprisingly liberal and tolerant. "They all have a mother," Boxer told a club friend. "People are who they are. They just have to be given respect. Look at how people look at us."

Keep this in mind as the Northern Alliance show up to protest the Pride Parade in London this July. Even the Bandidos want nothing to do with them.

Hey, remember back in May when Paulie inexplicably decided that Michelle Erstikaitis was in prison not because of the assaults, arson, threats to murder a child and a number of other crimes she was involved in, but because of her political views?

Those views being of the, "White Nationalist" variety. In spite of the fact that in not a single news story has there ever been mention of her holding such views. Oh, and really nothing in the police record... unless he considers having a crush on Tim McVeigh is a valid, "White Nationalist" policy platform in which case we invite other, "White Nationalists" to run with that position.

And remember how even Paulie's fellow travelers decided that, well, no, Ms. Erstikaitis probably should be in prison and perhaps should be declared a dangerous offender based on an extensive criminal record.

Yeah, that was fun, wasn't it?

We thought that since so many people shot Paulie down that he would decide that maybe Ms. Erstikaitis wasn't worth spending whatever capital he possesses in the Canadian, "White Nationalist" on her case. She's clearly a damaged individual who needs to be kept in detention for the safety of the public and for her own safety. Even Bill Noble, not exactly someone with a firm rooting in reality himself, can see Ms. Erstikaitis for what she is. Paulie MUST have come to his senses, right?

Michelle Erstikaitis: Canadian Dangerous Offender

Michelle Erstikaitis has consented to being designated a Canadian dangerous offender. This is a very rare step for someone to take as that is Canada’s most serious criminal designation. Ms. Erstikaitis told Ontario Superior Court Justice Todd Archibald that she was confident in her decision to agree to that designation when she appeared in court on Tuesday, January 5, 2010.

She plead guilty to charges of mischief, armed assault and threatening. The accused arsonist stated in court that she would not oppose the Crown’s request to declare her a dangerous offender. That decision could result in her being in prison indefinitely.

Erstikaitis is accused of assaulting her boyfriend with scissors and throwing a glass plat at his during an argument in Toronto last January. He was not gravely injured, however, she was was in the last six months of a six-year sentence as a long-term offender. In addition, she had served two years in prison after pleading guilty to a 1999 arson fire at a Hamilton apartment building. As a long-term offender, she is required under Canadian law to be closely monitored in the community. The next step beyond ‘long-term offender’ is to be declared a dangerous offender who is a risk to the public.

In the past, Erstikaitis has expressed her admiration for serial sex killer Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. In June 1999, she was convicted of threatening to kill the mother of Leslie Mahaffy, the mother of one of three girls Bernardo and Homolka murdered. She has also expressed admiration for Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh. She has been diagnosed as a psychopath.

At her hearing on January 5th, Erstikaitis declined the judge’s advice to seek the advice of an attorney before entering her guilty plea. She stated she didn’t need a lawyer, that she was sick and tired of lawyers and knew more than they did. She told the court, ‘I have a bit more intelligence and education than the average criminal. I have read Martin’s Criminal Code twice.’ The judge appointed her an amicus curiae, otherwise known as a friend of the court, to assist her with her own defense.

Michelle Erstikaitis went on to tell the Ontario Superior Court that hers was a lost cause and she would write a book about being the only female Canadian dangerous offender. Of course, she went on to say she would write a lit of ‘nasty sh*t’ about those who had wronged her.

Female dangerous offenders in Canada are, indeed, rare. The first was Marlene Moore who committed suicide in 1988.

As a biography, Michelle Lyne Erstikaitis, 30-years-old, is the oldest of three daughters of a sex worker, drug addict mother. She lived with her mother until she was about 5-years-old. When she was 8-years-old she was adopted. Over the years, she was hospitalized at least five times with mental health issues including depression, hysteria, psychosis, borderline and anti-social personality disorders. She was a chronic drug abuser and cut herself.

She began writing Paul Bernardo in jail when she was just 13-years-old. When Bernado was on trial for the murders of Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French in 1995 she began threatening the life of Debbie Mahaffy, the mother of the murdered girl who was her own age. The messages she left on Debbie Mahaffy’s answering machine were sadistic and threatening. At times she pretended to be her murdered daughter. Other times she threatened to kill her and her son. She was convicted of making death threats in 1999.

She poured gasoline around her Hamilton apartment in the fall of 1999 and set it on fire. She was rescued by emergency workers. At that time she was hospitalized in the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital, then charged with arson, endangering life and breaching her probation. She plead guilty and received a two-year sentence. She was diagnosed as a psychopath at the time, but since she was only 22-years-old, the judge ruled she was a ‘long-term offender’ and sentenced to a six-years of supervision after her release from prison. She was still on supervision when she is alleged to have slashed her boyfriend with scissors about a year ago. That is the incident that landed her in court in January 2010. She has been in custody since January 2009.

At this point, it appears that Michelle Erstikaitis will get her wish and be a rare female Canadian dangerous offender.

So, just to reiterate, Ms. Erstikaitis:

• Became so obsessed with Paul Bernardo that she began contacting the mother of the victim and eventually threatened to kill her and her son.
• Poured gasoline in her apartment and set it alight. Keep in mind that there were other tenants living in the apartment building who may have been harmed as a result of her, "tomfoolery."
• She has been diagnosed as a psychopath.
• She assaulted her then boyfriend.
• She was involved in other unnamed violent behavior.
• And finally, she has ASKED to be declared a dangerous offender.
  

This is the woman, a human being that is seriously ill and desperately needs to be treated in a secured facility, whom Paulie has decided is a political dissident who's only real crimes really aren't very serious to be concerned about.

But this time Paulie has managed to get a little more support for his latest cause... from people who will believe anything they're told by a prominent member of the, "White Nationalist" movement and who don't know how to use Google:

Rare genocide-related charges for Ont. man

Threats should be taken seriously, Canadian Jewish Congress says

An Ontario man is facing charges of advocating or promoting genocide, under a rarely used section of the Criminal Code.

Salman Hossain, 25, of Mississauga, Ont., is also facing three counts of wilfully promoting hatred against an identifiable group.

It is alleged Hossain promoted hatred on a third-party website and blog promoting genocide against the Jewish community.

Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino made the announcement in Toronto Thursday.

The genocide charge carries a maximum five-year prison term while the hatred charge calls for a two-year maximum sentence.

Police believe Hossain is out of the country.

Bernie Farber from the Canadian Jewish Congress said threats must be taken seriously.

With Hossain currently out of the country, we're not sure he'll ever face justice unless he does return. Hossain has been calling for the murder of Jews for far too long with no action being taken, but we guess late is better than never.

A Look Back at the WCFU: Lessons To Consider?

We started this blog in large part due to the emergence of the Aryan Guard in Calgary, Alberta because at the time we really were concerned that this gang would be a real threat to public safety. While this has been the case far too many times, the reality is that the Aryan Guard soon became the laughing stock of the, "White Nationalist" movement in Canada. Sex scandals (including not only McKee's tryst, but allegations of underage sex from people close to the gang), drug use and rampant alcohol abuse, constant infighting with other groups, founding members leaving and other forming rival groups which are even more embarrassing, and numerous arrests, not to mention some younger groupies coming to their senses and leaving the lifestyle behind, all of which took their toll and ultimately lead to gang basically dissolving and leaving only a few to claim membership.

That the Aryan Guard had lasted from late 2006 to almost 2010 (and, if you're to believe the ghost town that is their website, still exists) is remarkable considering the incompetence of the leadership, the animosity they engendered from other WN groups, the transitory nature of the membership, and violent acts that some of the membership was involved with. Sadly, while the Aryan Guard is rightly regarded with a healthy combination of contempt and ridicule, some real damage was done to individuals victimized by the gang as well as the reputation of Calgary and the province.

It never had to be like this.

The Aryan Guard was not the first group of it's kind to come into existence in Canada. Only 2 years before the Aryan Guard was founded by McKee, Price, and Reitmeier, another group tried to make an impact in Alberta.

Western Canada For Us (WCFU) was founded in early 2004. Their leadership under Glenn Bahr was an older and more stable than the drunken idiots and teenagers who made up the Aryan Guard. Like the Aryan Guard, WCFU held a rally in March (in the WCFU case the rally was in support of Ernst Zundel, pictured on the left, and was coordinated with a rally in Toronto organized by Melissa Guille). Bahr was courted by the media and was the guest of a nationally syndicated radio show. The WCFU even had serious plans to expand into other provinces with chapters already designated in British Columbia and Manitoba (though these efforts weren't particularly successful).

The WCFU had few of the Aryan Guard's problems, at least outwardly (co-founder Peter Kouba was ousted after a disagreement regarding the direction of the WCFU) and a lot of advantages.

The Aryan Guard lasted until December 2009 and the remnants remain active.

The WCFU lasted no more than 5 months and most of the original membership has remained silent since.

So, what happened? How did one group collapse so quickly while another filled with miscreant losers hold out for three years?

The answer to that might be a tale of two hate crimes divisions.

In Calgary the Aryan Guard were able to seemingly act with impunity, at least to some observers. Even when it's members were committing crimes (some of which were on film) the division that deals with hate crimes didn't seem to be all that focused on shutting the group down. We can speculate about the reasons; manpower, limited ability to collect intelligence, complacency, budget crunch, or any other reason or combination of reasons could have been factors. The fact remains that the Aryan Guard fell apart on it's own, but before it did, there were assaults, suspected firebombs and vandalism.

By comparison, the division that deals with hate crimes in Edmonton were very quick to recognize the potential threat the WCFU posed and moved quickly to gather the appropriate intelligence and evidence. Once done, they moved to shut down the WCFU.

Three years vs. five months.

We would ask our readers to examine the document and ask themselves if there's a great deal of difference between the evidence used to shut down the WCFU and the same kind of evidence that the Aryan Guard left for investigators on their own website and other websites:

We've taken a stance regarding support for the police that isn't always shared by other anti-racist organizations. They know our position, we know theirs and we can respect our differences in opinion. The purpose of this article isn't to beat up on the police in Calgary or to praise the police in Edmonton. What we would like to see is that police departments throughout this country take these groups seriously. We don't need the membership of these gangs to hurt someone or damage someone's property before taking action. Legislation already exists to deal with groups like the Aryan Guard and Western Canada For Us.

Let's try to think a little outside of the box.

Ruud Plans On Protesting Gay Pride Parade In London

The folks in London, Ontario celebrates their Pride Week a little later than most cities, but by all accounts it's a rocking affair. Of course it does attract it's fair share of protesters, but they've sort of become part of the show as they stand along the side of the street with their homemade signs that contain some well used rhetoric (i.e. wages sin yadda yadda yadda) calling on the parade participants to repent of their wicked ways.

In our experience, the parade participants are usually either quite pleasant to the protesters or mercilessly mock them because, well, they are sort of funny in their impotence.

One of the groups that has protested the parade in the past have been our good friends in the Northern Alliance and the Canadian Heritage Alliance, as well as some of their hanger-ons. Last year, they didn't show up. Couldn't get the numbers they wanted we guess, though they really have never been a large group at these events.

This year however, Stormfront user and Northern Alliance member, "For Honor" promises a return performance in the protester sideshow event:

Yep, it's Dave Ruud. This picture was from a few years ago during another Pride Parade protest. He's also the go to guy in the Northern Alliance now that Jason Ouwendyk has dropped out of public.

The people involved in organizing the protest (i.e. getting people to show up and hold a sign while helplessly being the subject of pity and ridicule) are at great pains to stress that those who do participate are to leave their Nazi flags and symbols at home:


But we thought you were PROUD to be white? And by saying that this is a, "clean protest" is that a tacit admission that there is nothing, "clean" or particularly honest about, "White Nationalism."

Well we are shocked! Shocked we say!

But then considering the affinity of the Northern Alliance to Nazism, that might be more a self-reminder than anything:

Four men were arrested on Canada Day in two separate Vancouver incidents that police described as possible hate crimes.

On June 12, David Holtzman and his partner Peter Regier were returning home after a concert and said they saw two men urinating on their door as they approached their Keefer Street home in downtown Vancouver. After a confrontation, Mr. Holtzman and Mr. Regier were beaten, both concussed, and landed in hospital.

The beaten men alleged that the assailants made homophobic slurs.

On Canada Day afternoon, Vancouver Police announced that two brothers from Richmond have been charged with assault causing bodily harm – two charges against 30-year-old Parminder Singh Peter Bassi and one charge against 27-year-old Ravinder Robbie Bassi.

The brothers are set to appear on July 5 in Downtown Community Court, which was set up in 2008 generally to handle cases against the mentally ill and drug-addicted.

An alleged hate crime is considered as an “aggravating factor” if the case reaches sentencing, Constable Jana McGuinness said Thursday.

Arrests in the high-profile case came after tips to police following the release of surveillance photographs on June 18, at a news conference attended by Police Chief Jim Chu and Mayor Gregor Robertson.

The arrests were announced at the same time as police revealed another “possible hate crime,” this one occurring at 2:45 a.m. A 30-year-old man was walking with friends on Davie Street downtown, an area popular with homosexuals, when he was confronted by a man in another group. The man threw a punch, police say, and the 30-year-old was knocked to the ground, when another man allegedly joined in, also punching the victim.

“Disturbing comments were also allegedly made regarding the victims’ sexual orientation,” police said.

The victim was not sent to hospital, but had facial injuries that required medical attention at the scene.

Alexandre Tchernychev and Aaron Alexander Hahn, both 21 and from Vancouver, were charged with assault causing bodily harm.
