The last several months have seen the neo-Nazi gangs the Aryan Guard and W.E.B becoming bolder and more aggressive in our city. The much publicized ploy by the Guard to boost their ranks of stormtrooper wannabes by offering to pay applicants' rent has been followed by a rash assaults on women of colour by white men dressed as "skinheads".

It is time for the people of Calgary to stand up and say "No" to violent racist gangs. It's time for us to take our streets and city back.

Bill Noble Update

We knew it was only a matter of time before Noble decided to violate the terms of his parole. In truth, he violated them months ago as he has been active on White Pride/Power Facebook groups since soon after his release from prison. Of course that wasn't enough for Noble so the seductive siren song of Stormfront was finally too compelling to ignore. What follows is his first Stormfront post since February:

Marc Lemire Edits His Own Wikipedia Article.

Oh, Marc.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens once noted that, “there are no grades of vanity, there are only grades of ability in concealing it." And Mark, you're ability to conceal your vanity is abysmal.

Over the last number of years, Mark Lemire has been editing his own Wikipedia entry using the user-name, "Veritas-Canada." It has always been transparent that Lemire and V-C were one in the same. As Veritas-Canada, Lemire attempted to expunge any links to newspaper articles, B'nai Brith and Canadian Jewish Congress reports, and any other sources connecting Lemire to groups and individuals associated with the far right, as well as the fact he was the last leader of the Heritage Front. As a result there has been an ongoing edit war on the Marc Lemire article since late 2006.

Well, it looks like Veritas-Canada wasn't getting the job done so Lemire called in some reinforcements.

Oh, did we say "call"? What we meant to say was that Lemire CREATED reinforcements in the form of sockpuppets.

Why One Should NOT Take Unscientific Polls Seriously

In a recent poll in what we'll term charitably as a socially conservative online "news" site, it appeared that Canadians overwhelmingly supported the return of capital punishment. In another similar Internet based publication, the poll numbers supported ending immigration to Canada from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. These unscientific polls were posted in light of the horrific tragedy in Manitoba when Vince Weiguang Li murdered Tim McLean.

Given the readership of these particular sites, it's no wonder that the numbers supported the very positions that the online publication supported. Imagine a poll on Free Dominion asking which of the major political parties should win the next Federal election. If the Liberals or NDP receive so much as 1% of the vote we'd be surprised.

This push polling isn't consigned to the fringe right or left. Have you ever looked at a poll on "The Globe and Mail" and become mystified by how Canadians voted in the unscientific poll, as it was counterintuitive to everything we know about the social conscious of the country? Well, we can thank, in part, the Internet for that as well.

For a number of years, one of our members has been on the mailing list of a hard right evangelical who is pretty friendly and on a first name bases with the bigwigs of Canada's Christian right. Now, our member did not even seek out membership in this mailing list, but he decided to stick with it as it did, and does, provide an interesting look at the mindset of right wing Christians. in their effort to shape public debate.

One of the things the person who created the mailing list does is to send out links to online polls in an effort to swing the vote in their favour. Here are two such efforts:

Marc Lemire and the Heritage Front: Was He Ever the Leader?

We’ve been following the Marc Lemire (pictured) saga play out for some time. As a result of a complaint being brought against him by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, his constitutional challenge to Canadian hate crime laws, and his, shall we say, acrimonious relationship with Richard Warman, Lemire has become a cause célèbre for those opposed to the CHRC and CHRT. In fact, some have referred to Lemire as no less than a persecuted martyr and a free speech hero. A common cause makes for strange bedfellows; Ezra Levant, who is Jewish, has found common cause with a man who’s links to holocaust deniers and neo-Nazis is unquestioned.

Well, that’s not entirely true. In fact, those ties do appear to be questioned. Not just questioned, but outright dismissed as libelous.

One of the groups supporting Marc Lemire is Free Dominion. Free Dominion, an Internet political webforum, is the Canadian sister site of the American-based Free Republic, both of which are known for being particularly partisan. The members of their web forums don’t view political discourse as a competition of different viewpoints so much as a war of black and white where conservatives represent everything good and pure while liberals are communistic, atheistic, barbarians at the gate trying to destroy everything patriotic Canadians know and love. In short, they view politics as a struggle between good and evil and those who don’t fall into step with conservative positions are evil and must be destroyed.

Take a look at the webforum of Free Dominion and form your own opinion (you might also wish to join and try to express a leftist or socialist view; you’ll learn quickly how their views regarding freedom of speech and expression don’t apply to anyone who’s speech or expression differ markedly from their own).

The Rise and Fall of a Racist Gang: Long, Nerland and Sims

We thought we'd direct our readers to this video from an old CBC story covering a racist skinhead/Aryan Nations rally in Provost, Alberta in the early 1990s. In this video is Carney Nerland, the Saskatchewan Aryan Nations leader who not long after the "First Annual Alberta Aryan Fest" took place shot and killed a First Nations trapper named Leo LeChance in Prince Albert. The organizer of the Provost rally, Terry Long, ran into his own legal problems when he was implicated in the brutal attack against Keith Rutherford in Edmonton. The attackers, young skinheads, were influenced by Terry Long.

The parallels between the Aryan Nations of the late 1980s and early 90s in Alberta and the Aryan Guard are compelling. Both groups had roughly 25 core members. Both groups became brazen enough to engage in public protests and/or rallies. The difference is that the Aryan Nations eventually collapsed as a result of the criminal activities of the membership. The Aryan Guard, thus far, is still going, however it hasn't been around as long as the Aryan Nations that was created by Long.

Any bets on how long it will be before the Aryan Guard also implodes?

Statements by The Southern Ontario ARA: Gay Pride Protest and Levant's Statement of Defence

While we are not members of or affiliated with Anti-Racist Action and our methods are sometimes dissimilar, we do share common goals. We were recently contacted by one ARA chapter in Ontario going by the name of the Southern Ontario ARA (SOARA) regarding two matters. The first matter deals with the recent London, Ontario Gay Pride parade where SOARA and other anti-racist activists confronted a tiny contingent of Northern Alliance and Canadian Heritage Alliance members (in the photos one can see David Ruud, Tyler Chilcott, Randall Linton (who was arrested along with Tomasz Winnicki on weapons charges), and Melissa Guille as well as one as yet unknown Northern Alliance member):
