WCAI Hoping For Charlottesville North

The date of the planned Worldwide Coalition Against Islam rally is certainly not a coincidence as it coincides with the one year anniversary of the Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally. The event was initially made infamous by the scene of white supremacists walking through the streets of the city chanting "Jews will not replace us" while carrying tiki torches:

It is this image that Joey Deluca, founder of the white supremacist and Islamophobic WCAI, said he would like to recreate in the streets of Toronto during an interview with "white nationalist" Ronny Cameron earlier this week:
After the rally, we were thinking like, it’d be pretty cool if we all marched through Toronto and maybe got some torches and just marched through after, right? And make a statement. Because nobody’s done that, right? I mean – and that’s why we need to do stuff like that.

I'm sure that Deluca is referring to torches never being used in Canadian far-right events, but even here he's wrong:

Members of the Ku Klux Klan set fire to a cross at a ceremony at Stave Lake near Vancouver in June 1981.

This shouldn't be surprising as Joey, known members of the WCAI, and other self-proclaimed "patriot" (read: racist) groups in Canada have been drawn to the spectacle that was Charlottesville, in particular the images resulting from the murder of an anti-racist protester as a car driven my a white supremacist plowed into the crowd of counter-protesters:
The day this tragedy occurred, WCAI vice-president Jesse Wielenga posted a video promoting upcoming WCAI events. One of those events, alluded to by Deluca in his interview with Cameron, was a WCAI rally in Vancouver that ultimately failed badly. In the video Wielenaga laughs about the murder and encourages others to do the same until he seems to realize that he has said something that would be illegal and he tries to walk it back:

Wielenga was certainly not alone in encouraging and/or minimizing murder. Deluca, as well as Cameron and neo-Nazi Kevin Goudreau who both plan on participating in the Toronto rally on August 11, celebrated the murder of Heather Heyer:

Much of this can be found in ARC's articles detailing the Canadian far-right reaction to Charlottesville:

As mentioned earlier in this article, Deluca was interviewed about what the WCAI was about and what the plans were for the rally. I've taken the time to cut the audio into bite-sized segments while a friend created a transcript of key points. However before I start I should mention here that all of what you are all about to read and hear is Proud Boy approved:

That Jones would use the image of a murdered child for his profile photo to try to make a cheap
political point says all that really needs to be said about the man's sense of decency.

But remember, the Proud Boys deny they're racists or antisemites.

And remember as you listen to these excerpts that the real danger that Muslims pose are to mediocre chicken restaurants and primary school politics!

Anywho....

Regarding the rally itself and specifically why he decided on Toronto, Deluca says the following:
Our logo is a picture of a Muslim getting the boot the hell out of the country. I mean, we can’t get any more straightforward with our message than that.

Michele Tittler Being Arraigned on July 9 Charged With Three Counts

When the Idle No More movement began, a number of First Nations activists were able to achieve considerable success in using the media to get their message out to the general public. While there were many, including this blog, who supported these efforts, they also resulted in hostility from those who would rather that First Nations peoples stay quiet about the systemic racism they have been subjected to for since before the founding of Canada as the nation it is today.

One of those individuals was Michele Tittler.

In 2014 a young woman from Regina wore a hoodie to school with the message, "Got Land? Thank an Indian" to highlight, among other things, the damage to First Nations culture as a result of European colonization and the appropriation of land by the colonizers. The young woman, 13 at the time, was attacked on social media and one of the worst of the bunch was a then 52 year old Michele Tittler who claimed to be the head of a non-profit organization called End Race-Based Laws. Initially CBC treated Ms. Tittler as an ordinary person who had concerns about the shirt, it soon became apparent that she was a rather infamous troll:

Aggressive online trolling by Michele Tittler, a Vancouver woman who posts inflammatory comments about Aboriginal issues and people, has led to at least two police probes — although the most recent case has been halted according to RCMP.
....
Tittler leapt onto the teen's page to denounce the message of the sweatshirt. In an interview with CBC News, Tittler admits to posting harsh, race-based comments on the teenager's Facebook page, considered a form of trolling. None of her words included physical threats.
....
In September 2013, Tittler registered a not-for-profit organization with Industry Canada called ERBL Inc., or End Race Based Law Inc. Its Facebook page has 3,100 likes. In an interview with CBC, Tittler explained that she is unemployed and spends most of her time on-line denouncing Aboriginal treaties, posting rants on YouTube and engaging in caustic debates with vocal critics. She's registered several domain names containing the words "Idle No More" to intercept web traffic from the actual site of the group. She has also filed formal complaints against people to Facebook and internet providers alleging that some sites are promoting racism.

"It got to the point that my hair was falling out of my head," Tittler told CBC News about the energy she has expended. "[I] was going to sleep for a few hours, then waking up and reporting [people]. Then I'd go to sleep for a few hours, then I'd wake up and report. My whole 2013 life was reporting."
....
"I'm probably the most stalked person on the Internet today in Canada," Tittler said, noting it was a point of pride that she had attracted such attention.

Tittler's family, however, has asked her to shut down her website. After the most recent controversy erupted, Tittler's 81-year old father, Konrad, discovered that his daughter had used his credit card to register more than 100 domain names in his name. He said he received an abusive phone call at five o'clock in the morning from someone accusing him of being a white supremacist.
"It’s astounding," Konrad Tittler told CBC News. "It’s foreign to me completely."
On the weekend, the senior Tittler contacted www.domain.com to try and shut the websites down. He learned that his daughter had pre-paid for the domain names, and, in some cases, they won't expire until 2023.
Ms. Tittler was not happy with the CBC coverage and began targeting them as well.

Point of fact is that ARC has been aware of Ms. Tittler for some time, however given that one of her prime motives for trolling is to get attention, ARC opted not to say much about her other than posting a screen shot and a response to her claims about First Nations peoples:

However it is hard not to notice posts by Tittler who currently has at least four Facebook and two Twitter accounts. While she has continued to attack First Nations peoples, her focus has expanded to include disseminating conspiracy theories and targeting Muslims, the media, Roman Catholics, and "the left" in general as for her vitriol.

She's also, not surprisingly, a Trump fan who is especially fond of Laura Loomer.

Here are just a few of her posts on one of the Twitter accounts she uses over the course of two days:

The Far Right Continues to Embrace Anti-Democratic Ethnic Nationalism and Authoritarianism (With Northern Alliance Cameo)

It has been an interesting week in the news. Donald Trump attacks traditional allies including Canada (specifically the Canadian prime minister) and his supporters in this country eat it up. Some of them have openly advocated for the invasion of the country to remove the Liberal government by force. Others "merely" want him to impose punitive tariffs on the country so that Canadians are made to suffer for the folly of electing the Liberals. Most of those self-described "patriots" ARC keeps an eye on unironically continue to refer to Justin Trudeau as a traitor. In the meantime these same "patriots" celebrate when Trump refers to a man who inherited his dictatorship from his father and grandfather and who's government is responsible mass execution of dissidents and the imprisonment of anyone who is believed to oppose the regime as being "tough" but who still "loves his people."

Really though, none of this is at all surprising as these elements of the far right in Canada, the United States, and many other countries have openly embraced ethnic nationalism and authoritarianism despite still claiming to favor democratic freedoms.... so long as those democratic freedoms are only afforded to people who look and think like they do.

I recently read a very interesting article that discussed the phenomenon in the United States. Research indicates that intolerance of minorities cause much of the majority population (white) to reject the principles of democracy when it is seen as benefiting otherwise marginalized peoples and results in a willingness to embrace authoritarian forms of control that will maintain their dominance even in the face of demographic changes:
A new study, however, suggests that the main threat to our democracy may not be the hardening of political ideology, but rather the hardening of one particular political ideology. Political scientists Steven V. Miller of Clemson and Nicholas T. Davis of Texas A&M have released a working paper titled "White Outgroup Intolerance and Declining Support for American Democracy." Their study finds a correlation between white American's intolerance, and support for authoritarian rule. In other words, when intolerant white people fear democracy may benefit marginalized people, they abandon their commitment to democracy.
Miller and Davis used information from the World Values Survey, a research project organized by a worldwide network of social scientists which polls individuals in numerous countries on a wide range of beliefs and values. Based on surveys from the United States, the authors found that white people who did not want to have immigrants or people of different races living next door to them were more likely to be supportive of authoritarianism. For instance, people who said they did not want to live next door to immigrants or to people of another race were more supportive of the idea of military rule, or of a strongman-type leader who could ignore legislatures and election results.
The World Values Survey data used is from the period 1995 to 2011 — well before Donald Trump's 2016 run for president. It suggests, though, that Trump's bigotry and his authoritarianism are not separate problems, but are intertwined. When Trump calls Mexicans "rapists," and when he praises authoritarian leaders, he is appealing to the same voters.
Given demographic changes, the far right find themselves in a bit of a bottle-neck so they have had to be much more creative in maintaining control, and this often means subverting the most basic of democratic practices, the vote:
White people continue to decrease as a percentage of the U.S. population; at some point, it's going to be impossible to win a national, democratic American election with a platform that alienates people of color. The GOP, seeing their coming demographic apocalypse, has pushed voter ID laws and other barriers to voting to try to prevent black and other minority voters from getting to the polls. In Wisconsin, Republican Governor Scott Walker even attempted to delay elections for state seats that he believed Democrats would win.
There are, of course, even more extreme positions:
Miller and Davis' paper quotes alt right, neo-fascist leader Richard Spencer, who in a 2013 speech declared: "We need an ethno-state so that our people can ‘come home again’… We must give up the false dreams of equality and democracy." Ethnic cleansing is impossible as long as marginalized people have enough votes to stop it. But this roadblock disappears if you get rid of democracy. Spencer understands that white rule in the current era essentially requires totalitarianism. That's the logic of fascism.
We've been hearing more and more about the desire to create an "ethno-state" here in Canada from a number of groups and individuals including Faith Goldy and Ronny Cameron. The patently undemocratic attitudes that would deny certain Canadians their democratic rights and create a tiered system of citizenship was also proposed by Steven Myatt recently:

Yeah, I know the last few articles have been a bit Myatt-centric. Just hear me out on this one.

We can laugh (and I did) about the clumsiness of Myatt talking about running "in politics" as well as the fact that this is a position that is so patently unconstitutional the courts would strike such a law down immediately (this assuming that Myatt would ever find himself in a position to enact such a law which seems less likely than me beating Justify in a footrace). It would also ironically disallow the first two prime ministers of the country from being involved in politics as well as numerous other Canadians who have emigrated from somewhere else.

But let's be honest here. Myatt is NOT talking about someone who looks like this:

Conservative MP Tom Kmiec, July 31, 1981 in GdaÅ„sk, Poland
Myatt IS talking about someone who looks like this:

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, born January 2, 1979 in Scarborough, ON
The truth of this can be seen in one of Myatt's responses:

Well, when it comes to the House of Commons and the Senate federally, there were a total of 56 who are citizens of Canada through naturalization. However it is more clear that Myatt thinks that some people "look" Canadian and others don't. Considering he had 46 people seemingly agreeing with him, it seems that there are others who feel the same way.

One of those people is someone we haven't seen in a long, long, time:

That would be Tyler Chilcott, formerly of the now defunct neo-Nazi Northern Alliance based out of London, ON:

Jason KING, David RUUD, WINNICKI, Tyler CHILCOTT,
Tomas SZYMANSKI at Zundel demo in front of Metro West
On the archived website, Chitcott had published articles with titles such as "Wholistic Racialism", "Please Rise and Sing", and "The Native Conflict" as well as some really horrible poetry.

Congratulations Steven. Tyler Chilcott likes the cut of your jib.

The first person who posted "Blood and Earth" hearkens to the "Blood and Soil" ethnic nationalism heard at the Charlottesville rally last summer and, even more prescient,  was a slogan used by the Nazis (Blut und Boden).

"White Nationalist" Ronny Cameron, His National Socialist Friends, and the Jewish Defence League

For the life of me, I don't understand why Meir Weinstein of the Canadian Jewish Defence League has such an amicable relationship with Ronny Cameron:

In an article published last week, I commented Ronny Cameron, a self-professed "white nationalist" and "alt-right" proponent as well as a supporter of Richard Spencer, and his relationship with the Canadian JDL. After the video Cameron went on to skirt the edges of antisemitic conspiracy theories and the rather ugly stereotypes leveled at the Jewish people. Since Meir routinely accuses progressives who make even the most tepid criticisms of Israeli government policies as being antisemites, I found it curious that he would give Cameron a pass for considerably more provocative claims.

While Cameron claims to be quite fond of the JDL who he considers an ally, he suggests they are an anomaly in the Jewish community and it appeared that his "alliance" with the JDL was a means to an end. ARC published three brief excerpts from more than two hour video published by Cameron featuring overt antisemite and white supremacist Devon Mannix and Proud Boy member Andrew Zokvic. The remainder of the video was certainly a telling:

FYI, and a shameless plug here, but if anyone is interested in supporting the work of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (which, in what will disappoint Mannix, is not comprised totally or even primarily of Jewish-Canadians), please click here.

Much of the following excerpts consists of Cameron nodding in agreement as his guests advocate for National Socialism and fascism, engage in antisemitic stereotypes conspiracy theories regarding the years in Germany prior to World War II and justifying the actions of Hitler in targeting Jewish Germans, and discussing multiculturalism and "race realism" using pseudo-science (much of it debunked decades ago) claiming racial superiority regarding intellect. I'll provide some broad categories for the excerpts:

Whether the name "alt-right" is appropriate followed by an antisemitic joke:

A discussion of religion with references to "blood and soil":

Whether or not mainstream conservatives will eventually embrace National Socialism and fascism (the consensus among the three seems to be "yes"):

With that in mind after Cameron says that Israel is a "distraction" though he supports the existence of Israel as what he believes to be an "ethnostate", Zokvic speaks about how Jews "are not white" and justifies Hitler's rise to power by claiming Jewish-Germans were the cause of the hardships in Germany during the interwar period:

Vacation Over. Time to Get to Work

I'm back and have learned two things:

1. Nepal is awesome. The landscape is breathtaking and the people among the friendliest I've encountered in all of my travels.
2. Kathmandu less so. The air quality is such that one needs to quickly evolve gills in order to breathe.

I returned earlier today and am very sore from trekking. Still, I thought I'd post a quick reminder of why the Northern Guard aren't very nice people:

Lee Down is, or at least was, the vp of the Northern Guard's branch in Toronto. He may still be, though he hasn't done much Northern Guard related for some time.

Further, middle age Proud Boy Rober "Arrested Development" Jones, III% militia supporter Shawn McBeath (aka "Bain Scott") and friend through their fetishization of the glock pistol accidentally provide a compelling rationale FOR gun control:

"I'd kill for a nice Glock." sort of suggest a reason why
you should never be allowed to have one.

In any case, and on a mostly unrelated note, I'm working on an article concerning a planned event for Calgary this weekend. In the meantime I'm going to soak in a tub filled with hot water and epson salt for about 4 hours.

Interesting Developments in Ontario Conservative Politics

Truth be told I wasn't quite certain how to best title this article and I'm still not sure that the title I have given it really addresses what I'm about to comment on.

When Patrick Brown resigned as leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, interim leader Vic Fedeli soon opted not to make a run in the race to make that leadership permanent. He further added that there was "rot" within the party which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

However, four people are currently running to become the leader of the party and, with the Progressive Conservatives leading in the polls, perhaps the next premier of Ontario:

Among those running are Caroline Mulroney, perennial leadership candidate Christine Elliott, Doug Ford (hey, if Trump could be elected president and Rob Ford elected mayor, both of who were known forces of bigotry, incompetence, and chaos, why not Doug?), and social-conservative Tanya Granic Allen:

Ms. Allen's name recently found it's way into the news when she received an endorsement, though likely not one that she sought:

Paulie's endorsement certainly isn't helpful though it was somewhat of a surprise given how much he supported Rob Ford as mayor. Ms. Muroney condemned Fromm and challenged Allen to disavow the endorsement:

Still, there were those who commented on Mulroney's tweet who appear to be the folks Paulie is really targeting:

Ms. Allen did eventually disavow Paulie's endorsement, though she also took the opportunity to slam the press for reporting on it:

In fact Paulie has been in the news a fair bit last week and during the weekend, which was probably his primary goal anyways since he isn't so stunned as to believe that anyone would seek the endorsement of a white supremacist.... well, there was a time when seeking such an endorsement would be political suicide, but all bets seem to be off these days. He was also involved in the disruption by bigots at the anti-racism Town Hall in Toronto that took place on February 22. Though he didn't make any noise himself, it became apparent afterwards that he was very pleased by the outcome:

Now this actually brings me to another interesting connection with Progressive Conservative politics in Ontario:

So, About Those Laura Loomer Legal Costs.....

It has been a while since ARC posted a story concerning Ezra Levant and "Rebel Media." In some ways they seem to have recovered from the disastrous spring and summer of 2017; the anti-Semitic rants of Gavin McInnes, Laura Southern and Faith Goldy dancing around the edges of white nationalism (Goldy herself appears to have definitively taken the plunge into white nationalist after her Charlottesville experience), the scandal in which Levant agreed to pay what he  referred to as "hush money" (his words), and other incidents that were significant body blows. As a result a number of high profile "Rebel Media" personalities left either because they didn't want to be associated with the brand any longer, appeared to have had "creative disagreements" with Levant, or they were fired. The latest to go appears to be EDL founder Tommy Robinson (born Stephen Christopher Yaxley) who has now, "gone independent":

We might perhaps speculate as to the reasons for this departure:

This is what Levant told Robertson: “Lauren Southern, Jack Posobiec, we had our differences, but you’ll notice that they have been positive since they left us … do you see how smart they are … they may have grievances with me … they’re not actually saying there’ve been problems, they’re not grumbling publicly because that would be against … their contractual duties to me”. Mildly threatening. Then came the crunch.
“I am prepared to give you and Caolan a very nominal sum to sign a second confidentiality agreement. So don’t go down that road … launch yourselves as independent … be totally positive like Lauren Southern‘Hi guys, we had a great run at the Rebel, but now we’re doing something even better … we’re going independent, we’re gonna do whatever we want. We’re gonna do this, we’re gonna do that’. Don’t even mention the Rebel”.
Now let’s look at what Lennon told his followers yesterday. “Now, I’m going independent … that’s right, I’ve decided to leave the Rebel to go out and do it for myself … no more paywall and I’ll be my own boss … I’m going to have total freedom to cover the stories that matter to everyone … you’re going to be hearing a lot more from me. This is just the beginning”. It was his decision, he’s being totally positive. Well, maybe.
The problem for Lennon is not only the hint of a forced smile at the end of that video, but also the tape of Ezra Levant describing more or less the same thing when he was sacking Robertson. What is worse for Lennon is the time at which this parting of the ways has occurred: he is in the middle of what could be a disastrously expensive legal action against the Police, and may still be hit with one or more contempt charges.

Since then the major Canadian political parties cut "Rebel Media" off and refused to participate in any press events with them, though it would appear that the Conservative Party of Canada and the United Conservative Party of Alberta might be quietly realigning themselves with "Rebel Media." Included in more recent news is the fact that Hamish Marshall, one of the co-founders of "Rebel Media", is now working for Andrew Scheer and that "Rebel Media" was paid handsomely for some reason by former Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch presumably for some services rendered.

But let's go back where I mentioned the "Rebel Media" personalities who have since left Mr. Levant's services and look specifically at one Laura Loomer.

What Those Who Call Themselves "Patriots" Really Believe

Put on your irony seat belt folks.

When I wrote the article detailing the reaction to the George Stanley acquittal, I used the Facebook group, "Canadians Against the NDP and Liberals (Information & Facts)" as a representative sample of views from the far right in Canada. Since then I have been poking around and perusing the content. A few days ago I came across this:

Well, I don't have to tell you, my dear readers, that the folks who post in this group are self-avowed, proud, patriots! They love the military! They love the anthem and are horrified by the change of a word (which actually is more grammatically correct and aligns with one of the earlier 1909 version, but let's not split hairs)! The love the flag and would fight anyone who would desecrate it! The LOVE Canada and woe to anyone who doesn't love this country as much as they do.... especially those swarthy foreigners who may have emigrated to Canada and may even be second, third, fourth, or fifth generation Canadians, but aren't REAL Canadians like they are!

I mean, the answer is self-evident then.

Right?

Right....?

Yeah, the consensus is the patriots with "Canadians Against the NDP and Liberals (Information & Facts)".

What follows with very little commentary is a representative sample of what kind of "patriots" the folks posting in this group are. I would perhaps recommend reader take a look at Erich Fromm's Escaping Freedom to better understand the mindset of these people. It is a little dated, but much of it still rings true today.

There are a lot of screen shots. Feel free to make yourself a pot of tea before you begin reading:

American III%er Calling For Coup in Canada and Murder of Prime Minister; His Views Promoted By Vancouver Alt-Right Supporter

ARC has spoken somewhat briefly about Glen Dumont in previous articles:

He can be found walking around downtown Vancouver, sometimes attending anti-government rallies in support of those causes or at events he opposes generally being mildly annoying. In almost all of these cases he will provide a Live Feed of his antics:

It also appears the man is frequently higher than a kite, and while that is neither here nor there I've a feeling that even Tommy Chong would ask him to consider laying off for a couple of hours.

His most recent video involves him and a friend walking into a bar and asking to speak to "antifa," assuming that a thoroughly confused hipster-looking dude is "antifa" while being asked to leave the property.

Dumont also posts as "Jim Whozinga" which is a moniker suggested in a video by Trev England as a means of communicating information that they wouldn't like being connected to a real person. England has been profiled here on the blog having advocated for the murder of the Prime Minister, assaulting Muslim-Canadians, and burning down mosques.

I'll admit that I never paid a lot of attention to Dumont; his behavior was more ridiculous than of any worry to me. However when I see images such as this, I start to dig a little more deeply:

The same image was also shared in the Facebook group created by long-time neo-Nazi Kevin "No Show" Goudreau:

Even a single threat of this nature should be taken seriously, however this image sort of turned out to be the tip of the iceberg:

This particular image seems to have originated with this guy:

It turns out that Glen Dumont's new friend "Johnny Infidel" has a name and that he is somewhat infamous for being a raving, conspiracy-theory loving, anti-Muslim, loon who has advocated for the murder of liberals and black people:

Jim Stachowiak with Terry Jones
Jim Stachowiak actually served briefly in a law enforcement capacity as a certified peace officer and was later employed at Augusta State University. He was only in law enforcement for three years however when his certification was revoked following an investigation for misconduct in 2008. Stachowiak himself has been arrested on a number of occasions since then.

Of course it goes without saying he's a big fan of Donald Trump:

He's also just a wee bit unhinged:

Is it weird that I'm almost more offended by his pronunciation of "meme" than his extremism?

And lately Jim Stachowiak has taken an interest in the Canadian government and Prime Minister Trudeau as evidenced by the video calling for a violent overthrow of the Canadian government and the "lynching" (his words) because elections don't work.

And Glen Dumont, first through his alter-ego and then on his own profile, seems to support these actions:

Stachowiak doubled down in a video published later in the day:

And these people believe it's the left who are violent.
