Okay, that's not fair, but London really is in the news for all the wrong reasons way too often

Tom Wants to Be Mayor
No, we're not talking about some new Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim spin-off on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim though we know such a show would be awesome!
In fact we're talking about a man deciding to run for mayor and who may very well be even more unelectable than Don Andrews is in Toronto when he runs for mayor:
White supremacist running for mayor
By PATRICK MALONEY, The London Free Press
Last Updated: September 8, 2010 9:43am
An avowed white supremacist who has called himself London's "biggest hater" is running for mayor.
Tomasz Winnicki joined the race Tuesday for the city's top political job, a move that likely holds little political significance for London but will no doubt shock many in the Forest City.
Winnicki's hate speech has been the frequent focus of Free Press reports in the past, and he's been at the forefront of the city's white supremacy movement.
He's appeared at rallies and loaded websites with profanity-laced diatribes about blacks, Jews, other non-whites and non-Christians.
Reached Tuesday night, Winnicki agreed he's a controversial figure.
"Controversial? Absolutely," he said. "(But) anything is controversial now.
Just about anything -- they say this guy's controversial, that guy's controversial.
"You can say that about anybody."
Winnicki, whose Wikipedia profile states he's 35, made dubious history in 2006 when he became the first white supremacist in Canada jailed for breaking a court order to stop posting hate messages online.
The controversy made Winnicki something of a hero to white supremacists across North America.
Winnicki served some time in jail before appealing the sentence.
Canada's human rights tribunal also ordered Winnicki to pay $11.500 in fines and compensation.
There are now 13 candidates for mayor, but observers have noted only two could be considered legitimate contenders: incumbent Anne Marie DeCicco-Best and ex-MP Joe Fontana.
Citizens have until this Friday to file nomination papers to run for mayor or in a ward.

Sure, there are lots of people who are deemed controversial, but what Winnicki doesn't want to seem to accept is that there's sort of a sliding scale of controversy. For example, in a country that cherishes our particular brand of health care (warts and all), a politician coming out in favor of a, "for profit" system would be deemed controversial in Canada and might have difficulty attracting votes in some parts of the country (though that person might be supported in other parts of the nation). While we wouldn't support such a policy, to make such a policy statement isn't light years away from mainstream political discourse. However, if you believe in deporting non-White Canadians for no other reason than their ethnicity, believe, support and perpetuate anti-Semitic hatred, publicly claimed that men are inherently more intelligent than women, well... you're sort of what we would call a fringe candidate here. But perhaps we're being too hard on Winnicki. Maybe he has some legitimate ideas worthy of consideration:

Uhm, we're not sure that creating a shadow currency is really in the mandate of municipal government.
Oh, and that's right. It's because they want to censor comments made by your supporters that none were showing up. Yes, that has to be the answer, though we note that you having posted the link on VNN has allowed for your buddies to post their views. Too bad they can't vote.
Oh, how we would LOVE to attend the all candidates' forum!

Ruud Plans On Protesting Gay Pride Parade In London
The folks in London, Ontario celebrates their Pride Week a little later than most cities, but by all accounts it's a rocking affair. Of course it does attract it's fair share of protesters, but they've sort of become part of the show as they stand along the side of the street with their homemade signs that contain some well used rhetoric (i.e. wages sin yadda yadda yadda) calling on the parade participants to repent of their wicked ways.
In our experience, the parade participants are usually either quite pleasant to the protesters or mercilessly mock them because, well, they are sort of funny in their impotence.
One of the groups that has protested the parade in the past have been our good friends in the Northern Alliance and the Canadian Heritage Alliance, as well as some of their hanger-ons. Last year, they didn't show up. Couldn't get the numbers they wanted we guess, though they really have never been a large group at these events.
This year however, Stormfront user and Northern Alliance member, "For Honor" promises a return performance in the protester sideshow event:

Perhaps it would be useful to remind our readers who, "For Honor" is:
Yep, it's Dave Ruud. This picture was from a few years ago during another Pride Parade protest. He's also the go to guy in the Northern Alliance now that Jason Ouwendyk has dropped out of public.
Some of Ruud's fellow travelers aren't comfortable with his public announcement on Stormfront however:

Yep, Tom Winnicki, pictured at yet another Pride Protest in London, feels that Ruud has said too much:

But that hasn't stopped Ruud from providing other useful information:

The people involved in organizing the protest (i.e. getting people to show up and hold a sign while helplessly being the subject of pity and ridicule) are at great pains to stress that those who do participate are to leave their Nazi flags and symbols at home:

But we thought you were PROUD to be white? And by saying that this is a, "clean protest" is that a tacit admission that there is nothing, "clean" or particularly honest about, "White Nationalism."
Well we are shocked! Shocked we say!
But then considering the affinity of the Northern Alliance to Nazism, that might be more a self-reminder than anything:

That last picture includes Canadian Heritage Alliance leader Melissa Guille who has also attended the London protests in the past.
In fact, Ruud has a rather odd obsession with the London Pride week parade. We could post dozens of screen shots, but we'll limit it to a couple:

The protests also have attracted an odd group of people. Sort of like this guy:

So, who is Wayne Kellestine? We'll let Ruud explain:

Wow. Talk about the company you keep.
So who's going to be coming out? We think that we could start with those who attended the last protest in 2008. Ruud will be there of course and maybe Winnicki. We think that Guille might make an appearance as well:
Perhaps Randall Linton will show up:

It wouldn't be a protest without Tyler Chilcott:
And finally, this Northern Alliance member who's name we still aren't sure of (but would love to know):

As for this year's events, if you bring a camera, be sure to keep this humble blog in mind when you consider sharing.

Profile: Tomasz Winnicki

Tomasz Winnicki, born on November 17, 1975, once proudly described himself as London, Ontario’s “biggest hater.” His posts on the VNN forums were profanity-laced diatribes against immigrants, African-Canadians, First Nations peoples, women, the police, homosexuals, and his biggest target, Jews. He threatens. He bullies. He’s as close to the stereotypical, frothing at the mouth bigot that one can find in real life outside of comic books.
But really, how seriously can you take someone who at 32 years old and based on current knowledge still lives in his mother’s and father’s basement and doesn’t seem to have ever lived on his own? Well, there was the brief exception of his stay for a few months in one of Canada’s fine correctional facilities for violation of a court injunction, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
