Ten Pointed Questions for CPC MP Alex Nuttall

Something stinks in Barrie Ontario. In March of this year, on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Barrie City Councillor, Keenan Aylwin, called out two local CPC MPs, John Brassard and Alex Nuttall, for remaining silent after Scheer spoke at United We Roll. He also pointed out that Nuttall was Facebook friends with Faith Goldy and stated that the two MPs were "playing footsie with white supremacists." They didn't take kindly to this accusation, but, instead of doing something productive, like denouncing white supremacy, they decided to sue Aylwin for defamation instead.

I assumed Barrie city council would stand behind Aylwin, but unfortunately, I was wrong. Instead, on June 12th they voted unanimously to reprimand Aylwin, and demanded that he remove the "offending" Facebook post. As reported by Fatima Syed in the National Observer, the Integrity Commissioner had introduced a new code of conduct, and Council found Aylwin had run afoul of it "by denigrating a fellow elected official in a public forum and fail[ing] to treat him with "dignity, understanding and respect.”

As Syed's article explained, council had a tough choice to make. If they voted to reprimand their colleague, it sends a message that they are censoring criticism of dog whistle politics, but if they didn't reprimand, they would potentially be disrespecting the role of the integrity commissioner.

While I appreciate this is challenging, it is worrisome that councilors would rather repeat "He broke the code! He broke the code!" than fully consider the important issues of racism, dog whistle politics, and censorship, before making what this writer believes was a blind decision en masse.

Even after having a couple of days to consider it further, the councilors remained unmoved. On June 14th, Global News reported that they decided to uphold the reprimand. In response, Brassard opted to drop his lawsuit, stating that “I am satisfied with the findings made by Council and the Integrity Commissioner." Nuttall also dropped his suit on the same day and it seems the matter is considered closed.

Except, it is anything but. The issues that prompted Aylwin's Facebook post remain, and now there is the added concern of politicians being censored for speaking out about other elected officials. Aylwin reflected on his experience with Syed:
“I think the problem here is that there are some politicians out there that are walking a very fine line (and some would call it dog whistling), where in one breath they will denounce racism, as they should, and then in another breath will support groups like the Yellow Vest movement or United We Roll that we know are rife with white nationalist elements and hateful elements. And they fail to make the connection between the harmful views and those in those movements and the creation of an environment where violence can fester. If there’s anything we can learn from my experience, it’s that there is a great risk to calling out white supremacy in this country.”
The fine line Aylwin mentioned can come in the form of associations, dog whistling, enabling, or blatantly offensive remarks, among other things. Given that Nuttall was indeed Facebook friends with Faith Goldy while she was on that platform, more digging was in order.

Based on what I found, I have some questions.

As I don't want to get sued, I will say up front that I found no direct posting of Nuttall's that indicates beyond a doubt that he is "playing footsie with white supremacists." What I found were several troubling social media associations and potentially related concerns that should be addressed.

I'll start with the most pressing:

Ahem

1. If Nuttall is concerned enough about his reputation around the issue of white supremacy to sue for defamation, why on God's green earth is he still following Faith Goldy on Twitter?

It seems like common sense that if you don't want to be accused of playing footsie with white supremacists, don't follow them or their sympathizers on social media.

2. Speaking of following white supremacists, why was he Facebook friends with Kevin J. Johnston, the white supremacist who targeted Barrie's mayor, until at least late May?

It appears that sometime since this Tweet went live on May 23rd, Nuttall unfriended Johnston.

Soldiers of Odin Provide "Security" For Former PPC Candidate At Anti-Trans Rally and Update on Hamilton Assaults By Homophobes Harassing Pride Attendees

I'm going to provide an update on what occurred when members of a number of hate groups attacked participants at a Pride event in Hamilton momentarily, but I first need to discuss events that took place in Vancouver at an anti-SOGI rally:

Among those attending this event was former PPC candidate Laura Lynn Tyler Thompson, a longtime anti-LTGBQ activist and who is associated with far-right evangelist Pat Robertson and "Rebel Media":

We can also add another group that she has willingly associated herself with:

This isn't the first time Tyler Thompson was found to be associating with the Nouns of Odin:

At the time Tyler Thompson denied knowing anything about the SoO while at the same time defending their right to attend the anti-LGBTQ event back in October 2018:

I'm not sure that Ms. Tyler Thompson  claim that she doesn't "know" the SoO any longer since it has been further claimed they were hired to provide "security" for the event yesterday.

Truth be told, there was quite a bit of trash attending the anti-SOGI:

UPDATE: Shoutout to Edmonton Against Fascism for figuring out who our red head friend is. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Ian Kelly (who has two Facebook profiles):

Of COURSE Devon Mannix is a Facebook friend of Ian's....

Given Tyler Thompson was a PPC candidate and I understand will be again during the upcoming federal election, I think this is an appropriate segue into the update concerning the assaults that took place in Hamilton:

Yellow Vest (and former Canadian Combat Coalition) member Rick Boswick seen in the above Tweet greeting Max Bernier at the Ottawa Yellow Vests protest in Ottawa posted a video of less than two minutes that he seems to believe totally exonerated the homophobes and will result in a mass arrest of the counter-protesters opposing them:

As YVCE shows however, the opposite is true:

Behold the power of silly string!

The Far-Right Continues To Eat Itself: Milo Yiannopoulos Attacks Lauren Southern

Sometimes one reads a story and walks away hoping that everyone involved crashes and burns:

I hadn't planned on talking about Lauren Southern, who had just released another in a line of dubious propaganda films, since among other things  I didn't think her "retirement" was a real; I was sure she would pop up again like a bad rash when she decided she needed affirmation from her particular army of incel alt-righters. I'm still not convinced that she's gone for good, but the timing is especially interesting in light of a story posted by alt-right (or at least alt-right adjacent) personality Milo Yiannopoulos to his blog:

Readers may remember the name Caolan Robertson as he was featured in a controversy regarding his time with Ezra Levant's "Rebel Media" where he was once employed. In fact the Yiannopoulos post discusses this incident at some length. The article discusses how Robertson and his partner George Llewelyn-John are lying grifters who stole from the likes of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon and who spend their ill-gotten money lavishly on themselves.... which I think is a rather rich accusation since Yiannopoulos is a grifter who spends money lavishly on himself. However the parts dealing with Lauren Southern are what I find to be especially interesting considering that Yiannopoulos and Southern, who worked with Robertson and Llewelyn-John on both the propaganda film released in May of this year as well as a strategically edited (ie. lying) ambush of a human rights lawyer representing refugees in Greece, at one time were thick as thieves:

That relationship seemed to be at the very least on shaky ground when plans were being made for an Australian tour which ultimately collapsed:

Given his desire to be the center of attention and to undermine those who he believes are challenging his status as well as the rather obvious professional (if one can call what these people do as a profession) jealousy one might be inclined to take Yiannopoulos' bitterness with a grain of salt.

Still, there's certainly enough here to indicate just how awful everyone involved in this really are:

More Links To Goldy's Support For (and From) White Supremacists

Sometimes when researching other topics one comes across interesting information. For example ARC has often wondered if there was some sort of rift between white supremacist Faith Goldy and white supremacist Lauren Southern. Both worked for Ezra Levant's "Rebel Media" and seemed close at the time:

However whenever she is asked about Southern these days, Goldy demurs.

Then I came across this when looking up information regarding the previous article about Goldy:

Well that's certainly some shade right there.

Since these two occupy the same small ecosystem -- the pond that is the Canadian far-right isn't as big as the American sea for example -- and both fill a similar niche in it I wonder if there isn't some sort of professional animosity taking place.

As Connor MacLeod, ‎Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez‎, and the Kurgan all said, there can only be one.

But really, this isn't the glass house that Goldy should be tossing stones about.

While she has done a very good job of exposing herself by her own words as a racist, ARC has done a pretty good job already of connecting Goldy to a number of hate groups including Students For Western Civilization and ID Canada (formerly Generation Identity Canada) we've come across more information, some of which was published by Canadaland and some which has yet to be published.

Readers will know that the Canadian Anti-Hate Network managed to force Goldy to submit to a compliance audit of her finances related to her mayoral run:

At the same time information regarding her donors was released. Goldy made a big deal about this "doxxing" which would put her supporters in danger (it won't) despite the information already being public and Goldy not seeming to care all that much before she decided to engage in histrionics:

All of these were and are of interest, however it was another part of the disclosure that caught my interest.

ARC had already detailed Goldy's links to ID Canada who were basically helping to run her campaign:

It also appears, based on what Canadaland found, that she hired the suspected leader of ID Canada to provide content and website development:

Tyler Hover has been profiled on the blog here as the suspected leader of then Generation Identity Canada, now ID Canada.

The Hypocrisy of Faith Goldy

During the past few weeks south of the border a number of state governments controlled by Republicans have passed and signed into law increasingly regressive restrictions on reproductive rights in a rather transparent effort to challenge and ultimately overturn the right of women to choose to end a pregnancy. All of these anti-abortion bills have been terrible, however the worst is probably that which was passed in Alabama as it doesn't even consider rape and/or incest as a mitigating factor.

None of these laws are currently enforceable by the way.

The Alabama legislation is so bad that even the likes of Pat Robertson thinks it is extreme. Others on the right have also come out in tepid opposition:

That Ann Coulter's mini-me Tomi Lahren came out in opposition to the Alabama abortion ban isn't entirely surprising since reproductive choice is one of the very, very, few instances where she holds a moderate position. This post did give at least one individual frequently featured on the blog an opportunity to trumpet her own ideological and religious purity however:

I believe the folks on the right call this "virtue signaling":

But then something rather interesting occurred in the thread someone called Goldy out:

The events of Charlottesville have been discussed on this blog and elsewhere paying some attention to Goldy's participation in the event:

Ultimately Goldy was fired from "The Rebel" when even Ezra Levant decided her biased reporting (too biased even for "The Rebel" which is really saying something) and her participation on a neo-Nazi podcast was a bridge too far. In fact it seems that Levant had implied that Goldy had engaged in what would be incredibly unethical behavior with one of the subjects of her "reporting':

The women posting on Twitter as "Liberal, Not Lefty" appears to be a friend of Megan Bobonick. This is significant since Bobonick claims to be engaged to alt-right toad Richard Spencer:

Rather than extinguish this particular fire, Bobonick threw gasoline on the flames:

Now, I truly don't give a damn about Goldy's or anyone else's sex life (still, Richard Spencer?!? Ew!). What I do care about is the puritanical, holier than though hypocrisy of people like Goldy who rail against what they claim to be sexual deviance and the need for some sort of state regulation (i.e. restrictions on abortion and contraception, legal rights for LGBTQ, etc)....

.... often privately engaging in the same acts that they condemn publicly.

Boswick's and Storie's Tête a Têtes With Max Bernier and Paul Fromm

Because I've decided, at least for the next few weeks or perhaps months, to limit the amount of research and writing I've been doing (trying to create a bit of a balance between real world work, anti-racist activism, and a social life) there will be a few articles that are a bit dated but which are still of relevance.

Such as this article.

Over the past number of months we've been paying a bit more attention to unemployed drifters Rick Boswick and Derek Storie who instead of doing something productive with their time instead pretend to be journalists. Of course as we've seen their understanding of journalism means accepting every crack pot conspiracy theory they read, posting drunken rants on Facebook, and threatening actual journalists:

I feel that I need to stress that Boswick and Storie published this video exactly as it has been posted. I have not edited it at all. They think this video makes them appear good.

They've also taken on the cause of a mentally ill man arrested when he arrived an an event featuring the Prime Minister with plans on making a citizens arrest and having threatened to harm Trudeau online:

Now Boswick and Storie have interviewed the usual miscreants associated with the fringe right in the country including Faith Goldy (who is currently trending because of some accusations concerning just how Faith-full she has been) and Kevin "the Poodle" Johnston lately paying special attention to his recent legal problems:

However, they did recently get an interview on May 3 with someone who at one time had some mainstream credibility:

Report Pegida/YVC Members Boswick & Storie's GoFundMe

In light of PEGIDA Canada's Jenny Hill's failed attempt to crowdfund for her $11,000 judgment, we thought it prudent to bring to the public's attention another PEGIDA related GoFundMe that deserves similar attention and action.

Yellow Vests Canada members, PEGIDA supporters, general hatemongers, and self-professed "Domestic War Reporters" Rick Boswick and Derek Storie also have a GoFundMe campaign to fund their "Facts vs. Feelings" podcast. (Note: we are unclear how they reconcile this name with the fact that they are driven entirely by their emotional response to people who are different from them, such as women who don't want to be pregnant, LGBTQA+ folk, and Muslims.) At least Boswick has moved on from being the VP of the Canadian Combat Coalition.

Special thanks to the National Observer for covering this from a more mainstream angle. We were happy to work closely with them on the piece. You can read it here.

Let's break down some recent episodes of Facts vs. Feelings where they give a platform to hate groups, Islamophobes, and neo-Nazis.

1) In support of Toronto PEGIDA rally, where Storie set off smoke bombs and helped Canadian Nationalist Party member Andre Chiasson, Proud Boy Tim Kelly, Wolves of Odin, Soldiers of Odin, Northern Guard, and Canadian Combat Coalition burn a Quran.

2) In support of anti-Muslim hate group the World Coalition Against Islam. Also in this video is footage from Islamophobe Kevin J. Johnston who still faces hate crime charges.

3) An interview with noted neo-nazi and white supremacist Paul Fromm. The discussion centered on what they feel is the "persecution" of James Sears, of the racist, anti-Semitic and misogynist Your Ward News, and his hate crime charges. It should be noted that Hamilton law enforcement is also investigating Fromm as a result of his distribution, and agreement with, the Christchurch shooter's manifesto.

4) The pair use footage from alt-right white nationalist Lauren Southern.

5) They were interviewed by white nationalist Faith Goldy.

6) They support known Islamophobe Sandra Solomon.

7) They harassed people, Westboro style, in Ottawa during Winterpride.

The pair recently appeared on a Facebook live with Winnipeg Alternative Media/Todd MacDougall, an "alternative" news Facebook page run by a Proud Boy that claims to be libertarian but is really just an alt-right, super budget version of what Boswick and Storie do. Now that's saying something.

Anyway, they appeared on MacDougall's "show," and confirmed they are unemployed drifters, after complaining that ARC has called them... unemployed drifters. Aren't these the same people who complain about how refugees aren't contributing to our economy?

They also admitted to exploiting their indigenous heritage to deny the claims that they're Nazis. (You can still hate Muslims and be indigenous.)

More to come on WAM and MacDougall at a later date.

Boswick and their friend Cory Scott are now potentially facing charges for uttering threats, due to this video, where they threatened an anti-racist activist and journalist with violence.

They also stalked and harassed this individual outside of the Brampton courthouse:

GoFundMe needs to remove this campaign, and stop allowing hate groups to crowd source on their platform. Please report this campaign to GoFundMe, citing the information provided.

Please report this campaign for violating their terms of service.

Fire Guts Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris: Islamophobes Blame Muslims

The first time I visited Notre-Dame in my early 30s I didn't have the words to express the awe I felt simply standing before the 800 year cathedral. Entering the medieval gothic building simply added to my sense of smallness, but also left me with a feeling of being connected across centuries with the millions of people who had come to worship or visit. I was born a Roman Catholic and though I had fallen away from the Church by this point one couldn't help but feel some sort of connection with the divine whether one thinks of it as a sky god with a furrowed brow and white hair or the universe itself.

I have always counted myself fortunate to have been able to experience Notre-Dame and I spent much of the afternoon looking at my old photos of my time spent there. I looked at these photos with sadness now because of the horrible event that occurred today:

This isn't just a loss for France. It is a loss for the entire human family.

Tragedies like this -- and thankfully there was no human life lost -- bring out the best and worst in people. The people who I who remember include the Parisians who in photos and videos are comforting each other; who state that they will rebuild a great monument to human achievement. These Parisians represent the cross section of the modern, multi-cultural, city; white, African, Arab, Asian. I want to remember the heroism of the firefighters determined to save the cathedral putting their own lives on the line in the process.

Unfortunately, we can't ignore that it also brings out the worst in some who, perversely giddy with excitement, are using the tragedy to stoke fear and hatred:

At this point no one is certain what caused the fire though most experts are suggesting that it was likely the result of an accident related to renovations the cathedral was undergoing. This hasn't stopped hate groups and Islamophobes from using this tragedy as an excuse to attack Muslims specifically and immigrants in general. In a sense this didn't surprise me since these people often invoke Muslims as a scapegoat, such as the forest fires in BC and Alberta:

In Canada one of the first to jump on this bandwagon was Faith Goldy:

Goldy is infamous for this kind of race baiting. She suggested that the Quebec mosque massacre was perpetrated by Muslims (it wasn't), that the van attack in Toronto last spring was the action of a jihadist (it wasn't), that laws in Alberta have been re-written so Muslims don't need to have their picture take for a firearms license (not true as it is old legislation and was focused on the Christian Hutterite community), and that Syrian children were attacking "Canadian" children in Halifax elementary schools (not true). While these stories have been debunked they continue to spread by the people and groups this blog covers who believe Goldy's lies -- and she is a liar -- and share the lies on social media as truth.

I've collected a small sample of screen shots. Truth be told I was unsure if I should republish them since I am worried about giving these people a platform. However I think it is important to highlight not only the Islamophobia, but also the antisemitism and racism found in these groups because too many people want to stick their heads in the sand to the reality of how toxic things have become:

Old Is New Again: Some Members of Far-Right Attempt To Have Ideological Opponents, Media, and Politicians Jailed

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the "apex" of far-right "patriot" journalism in Canada:

Yep, this is a clip of a drunken Rick Boswick, Derek Storie, and Corey/Kory.... Something-or-Other (I genuinely can't be bothered to look up his last name) defaming a journalist who has already been assaulted by the far-right, complaining about the violence they claim to be subjected to, and talking about bringing paintball guns loaded with glass marbles to shoot at counter-protesters.

Not a good look gentlemen. Not a good look at all.

In any case, the boys here have been rather busy. On weekends they organize Poorly attended Yellow Vest protests on an overpass outside Toronto. They also found themselves the focus of a national news story when, in their Yellow Vest attire, they heckled PM Justin Trudeau and Toronto mayor John Tory during a news conference concerning affordable housing:

As a bit of an aside, I'm not sure complaining about being called white supremacists then going ton to complain about minorities and the persecution of white people (in addition to the New World Order conspiracy theories) really help your case much:

However, the Pegida protest in Toronto on March 23 is what has Boswick and Storie all riled up, especially this tweet from John Tory:

It should be noted that the Pegida Canada rally came hot on the heels of the murder of 50 Muslim worshipers in Christchurch, New Zealand. A couple of days prior to the Pegida Canada rally in Toronto, Faith Goldy and her drones appeared at an anti-racism rally and memorial for the Christchurch victims intent on antagonizing the attendees; Bowswick and Storie came after Goldy's group left.

In fact, both the Pegida Canada rally and the harassment of the memorial were discussed when Goldy interviewed both Boswick and Storie.

Before I post this though, a brief open letter to Faith Goldy.

Hi Faith. May I call you Faith?
You and I need to talk about life choices.
For example, you went from someone who interviewed the now leader of Her Majesty's Official Opposition and, perhaps, future Prime Minister of Canada to being kicked off most social media platforms as a white nationalist and interviewing two unemployed drifters during one of their moments of sobriety while they ranted on about New World Order conspiracy theories.
In the dark hours of the evening, and you experience the Dark Night of the Soul when you can't sleep and find yourself staring at the ceiling, do you ever wonder where it all went wrong Faith?

Boswick and Storie present a narrative of the Pegida members being the victims of unprovoked attacks on March 23. While it certainly was a raucous event with Pegida members outnumbered by 10 to 1, the story isn't really quite as clear cut as the two make it out to be:

Still, this particular bug has really gotten up their butts.

In the they posted where they are heckling Trudeau and Tory, you probably heard Boswick, Storie, or both talking about some sort of legal challenge. They discuss it in slightly more detail at one point:

That's right. They think they can prosecute Tory for a tweet and destroy "antifa" because.... freedom I guess:
