Rick Boswick and Derek Storie: More Fallout From Attack on LGBTQ Community By Far-Right

The days since Christian Taliban members, Yellow Vesters (as represented by Rick Boswick and Derek Storie among others), Canadian Nationalist Party members, and a Wolves of Odin have been interesting in that it tells us a great deal about the mindset and character of the people who attacked LGTBQ members and counter-protesters at a Hamilton Pride event.

The face of that violent encounter has become this guy:

Chris Vanderweide was caught on camera striking two individuals with the helmet he was wearing. Despite wearing faux body armor and said helmet, Vanderweide claims he and the other far right protesters were not there to start a fight which is a rather unbelievable claim given the footage.

Still, it hasn't stopped Boswick and Storie from trying to turn him into a hero for the far right akin to Kyle Chapman:

The edited video has been shared quite widely on YouTube and has attracted comments from the usua assortment of alt-right shut-ins:

For his part, Vanderweide has tried to monetize his new found infamy:

Not surprisingly, Go Fund Me removed this page:

Hey, grifters gotta grift, eh?

But despite what they seem to believe is a "slam dunk" which proves their claim to have been the victim of a violent attack by counter-protesters despite.... you know.... the actual video evidence they themselves have provided, Boswick and Storie have been frustrated that they haven't been able to control the narrative because normal people can actually see what happened.

As such, they are lashing out and urging their members to harass those who have either spoken out against them or provided coverage of the event that doesn't paint the far right as patriotic superheroes:

I'm not sure if two unemployed drifters and members of hate groups
really constitutes what Canada is.

They reserve special ire for yours truly:

By the way, suggesting your side has "real hitmen" as an implicit threat doesn't help your claim of being non-violent:

"Lawrence" who also attended the protest and was taken into custody expresses his concern about moles in their movement providing us information:

First, duh!

Second, it really isn't that hard to figure out what you all are up to, so don't flatter yourselves that this is an Operation Overlord sort of thing.

However, even in their own circle, people aren't especially happy with the publicity Hamilton has garnered for their movement:

Even Leigh Stuart apparently isn't happy:

Are we instigating civil insurrection that will lead to conflict? Fundamentally yes.
That's quite the admission Rick despite saying this earlier in the evening:

Oh, I suppose I should have mentioned that I grabbed the videos Boswick and Storie posted a couple of nights ago?

They really, really, hate when I do that. ;)

Soldiers of Odin Provide "Security" For Former PPC Candidate At Anti-Trans Rally and Update on Hamilton Assaults By Homophobes Harassing Pride Attendees

I'm going to provide an update on what occurred when members of a number of hate groups attacked participants at a Pride event in Hamilton momentarily, but I first need to discuss events that took place in Vancouver at an anti-SOGI rally:

Among those attending this event was former PPC candidate Laura Lynn Tyler Thompson, a longtime anti-LTGBQ activist and who is associated with far-right evangelist Pat Robertson and "Rebel Media":

We can also add another group that she has willingly associated herself with:

This isn't the first time Tyler Thompson was found to be associating with the Nouns of Odin:

At the time Tyler Thompson denied knowing anything about the SoO while at the same time defending their right to attend the anti-LGBTQ event back in October 2018:

I'm not sure that Ms. Tyler Thompson  claim that she doesn't "know" the SoO any longer since it has been further claimed they were hired to provide "security" for the event yesterday.

Truth be told, there was quite a bit of trash attending the anti-SOGI:

UPDATE: Shoutout to Edmonton Against Fascism for figuring out who our red head friend is. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Ian Kelly (who has two Facebook profiles):

Of COURSE Devon Mannix is a Facebook friend of Ian's....

Given Tyler Thompson was a PPC candidate and I understand will be again during the upcoming federal election, I think this is an appropriate segue into the update concerning the assaults that took place in Hamilton:

Yellow Vest (and former Canadian Combat Coalition) member Rick Boswick seen in the above Tweet greeting Max Bernier at the Ottawa Yellow Vests protest in Ottawa posted a video of less than two minutes that he seems to believe totally exonerated the homophobes and will result in a mass arrest of the counter-protesters opposing them:

As YVCE shows however, the opposite is true:

Behold the power of silly string!

Hate Groups At Toronto Pegida Rally Burn Quran and Set Off Smoke Bombs

Sooooo, remember when these people claimed to be opposed to Islamic extremism, but not Muslims?

No one believed that then nor does anyone believe it now:

So we have members of the Proud Boys (including the braying Jackass Tim Kelly), Northern Guard, Yellow Vests, Canadian Combat Coalition, Nouns of Odin, and Canadian Nationalist Party members burning a Quran on a public street during the Pegida rally yesterday.
But they don't hate anyone, of course.

I should also note that Andre is also an Ontario rep for the Worldwide Coalition Against Islam.

Interesting that the Proud Boys who pretended to condemn Andre would
later burn a Quran with him. Almost like they weren't actually sincere....

This was only one of a number of incidences of provocation and violence committed by the fascists (and that is an accurate label) while complaining about being the victims.

For example, while marching they were stopped by counter-protesters in their tracks. They responded by trying to push through and used the flag poles they were carrying as weapons:

Oh, and there is Robert Jones at the end of the video, a person who proudly proclaims himself as being a fascist:

There was also the smoke bomb for which a member of the Pegida fascists was arrested:

In the video, the fascists claim that the smoke bomb had been thrown at them first by the counter-protesters. The problems with this claim are:

  • Nothing in the video suggests that it had been thrown at the Pegida fascists since there was no smoke until it had been thrown first by the Canadian Nationalist Party member (Andre I believe) and then because it didn't make it to the counter-protesters by the Yellow Vest member who was then taken into custody.
  • The voice(s) wanting the fascist side to throw "another one" which again suggests that it originated on their side.
I also can't help but notice that the color of the smoke is the same as that which Boswick and Storie use when engaged in their poorly attended Yellow Vest protests on a Toronto-area overpass. And in what I am sure must be a TOTAL coincidence after those who remained were able to "march" (which is a very nice way of saying "go for a walk after being humiliated")....

.... Boswick and Storie set off yellow smoke bombs there:

As an aside, I'm not sure why the lone JDL fella wants to hang around with people like Ryan Mclean of the Canadian Combat Coalition who posts antisemitic images including these:

I'm also not sure why he would associate with Boswick and Storie who have become quite chummy with Paul Fromm:

More on this one later.

Far Right Rallies and Counter-Rallies: Montreal and Toronto

I'll be updating this as more information comes out.

Two rallies are ongoing. In Montreal members of La Meute (unofficially, of course) and other hate groups are rallying in support of the illiberal policies of the current Quebec government targeting religious minorities. In Toronto Pegida Canada is trying to march.

In Montreal Jon Milton is one of the journalists covering the event. He reports police in that city as having aggressively attacked counter-protesters as members of the far-right cheered them on:

In Toronto I've been following some of the live videos posted by far right members on social media. Some in the crowd (and those posting in the comments section) are encouraging the far-right protesters to attack the counter-protesters. Given the police presence separating the two sides, that might be a tall order. Groups present include members of hate groups including Canadian Combat Coalition, Northern Guard, Nouns of Odin, and members of Travis Patron's Nationalist Party of Canada:

Also present are Rick Boswisk and Derek Storie fresh of their interviews
with Paul Fromm and Max Bernier; more on this in a later article.
Suffice it to say they aren't having the best of times right now:

After about an hour the Pegida and co. supporters tried to march.

They didn't get too far.

Justin Long's videos suggest the fascist supporters are having a lousy day again:

Yep, a very lousy day....

.... which includes at least one Yellow Jacket arrest:

Journalist Kosalan Kathir covered the event from the start:

Readers won't be surprised that unemployed drifters Boswick and Storie are among the remaining petulant children who are engaging in the equivalent of holding their breath until they get their way. Video edited for length because holy HELL are they whiny!

The Role of Social Media in Radicalizing People Who Are Mentally Ill

Anecdotal evidence suggests that despite Maxime Bernier's claim to reject the extremists who have been attracted to his new right-wing party, the PPC in fact has been courting those very same people.

Bernier with Georges Massaad

Certainly there are the dog whistles regarding multiculturalism, immigration, and identity politics that Bernier is happy to repeat online and on the stump. There is also some evidence that indicates that some PPC riding associations know that at least some of their supporters hold extremist views and that those members are simply asked to keep those views concealed:

A recent article in the Canadian edition of the Huffington Post goes even further claiming that the PPC is actively courting votes from extremists groups including one mentioned frequently on this blog:
The Canadian Combat Coalition, also known as C3, is a self-described group of "patriots concerned with Canada's future." It has downplayed suggestions it endorses "any racist or hate ideologies," despite Islamophobic and anti-immigrant messages dominating its online community and having members who are known to show up at anti-Islam rallies.
"Let's take their votes, but no publicized cross endorsement of any kind," reads a message sent in February by national co-ordinator Caleb Voskamp in a Facebook group chat for PPC executives and organizers.
On the one hand courting the likes of the Canadian Combat Coalition seems rather futile given the actual membership consists mainly of a very small group of people (mainly in Ontario) who would have difficulty packing an elevator. My guess is that the CCC is simply representative of a number of extremists groups -- Proud Boys, Nouns of Odin, Northern Guard, etc -- whom the PPC may be actively trying to get support from, though even if this is the case the number of actual votes the PPC would receive from actual members, even if every member voted for a PPC candidate, would be minuscule.

More likely, the PPC is appealing to the people who, while not necessarily members of these groups, are active online as supporters. Those numbers, though still relatively small when compared to the rest of the potential electorate, are considerably larger than the core membership. These individuals are present on the social media sites of these hate groups and have become radicalized by the rhetoric of online extremism.

I present this individual as a potentially typical example of such a supporter, however I do so with a significant caveat that will become apparent later on in the article:

Tyson Hunt of The Clann Recruits People To Assault Anti-Fascist Counter-Portestes.... on Kijiji

So the mantra of the right is that it is "antifa" who are violent and they are victims who are only defending themselves. Aside from the fact at being an anti-fascist is the default for decent human beings, this claim has been proven false time and time and time again.

It doesn't stop them from making it even when it is proven to be a lie.

Which is why this Kijiji ad (I'm not kidding) posted by Tyson Hunt is especially interesting:

Yeah... anti-fascists are the violent ones:

Then again, Hunt is a lot of bark, but not a lot of bite:

Fact is despite their bravado, the far-right know how effective counter-protesters are and are afraid of them:

Consider this to be your warm and fuzzies of the evening.

Old Is New Again: Some Members of Far-Right Attempt To Have Ideological Opponents, Media, and Politicians Jailed

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the "apex" of far-right "patriot" journalism in Canada:

Yep, this is a clip of a drunken Rick Boswick, Derek Storie, and Corey/Kory.... Something-or-Other (I genuinely can't be bothered to look up his last name) defaming a journalist who has already been assaulted by the far-right, complaining about the violence they claim to be subjected to, and talking about bringing paintball guns loaded with glass marbles to shoot at counter-protesters.

Not a good look gentlemen. Not a good look at all.

In any case, the boys here have been rather busy. On weekends they organize Poorly attended Yellow Vest protests on an overpass outside Toronto. They also found themselves the focus of a national news story when, in their Yellow Vest attire, they heckled PM Justin Trudeau and Toronto mayor John Tory during a news conference concerning affordable housing:

As a bit of an aside, I'm not sure complaining about being called white supremacists then going ton to complain about minorities and the persecution of white people (in addition to the New World Order conspiracy theories) really help your case much:

However, the Pegida protest in Toronto on March 23 is what has Boswick and Storie all riled up, especially this tweet from John Tory:

It should be noted that the Pegida Canada rally came hot on the heels of the murder of 50 Muslim worshipers in Christchurch, New Zealand. A couple of days prior to the Pegida Canada rally in Toronto, Faith Goldy and her drones appeared at an anti-racism rally and memorial for the Christchurch victims intent on antagonizing the attendees; Bowswick and Storie came after Goldy's group left.

In fact, both the Pegida Canada rally and the harassment of the memorial were discussed when Goldy interviewed both Boswick and Storie.

Before I post this though, a brief open letter to Faith Goldy.

Hi Faith. May I call you Faith?
You and I need to talk about life choices.
For example, you went from someone who interviewed the now leader of Her Majesty's Official Opposition and, perhaps, future Prime Minister of Canada to being kicked off most social media platforms as a white nationalist and interviewing two unemployed drifters during one of their moments of sobriety while they ranted on about New World Order conspiracy theories.
In the dark hours of the evening, and you experience the Dark Night of the Soul when you can't sleep and find yourself staring at the ceiling, do you ever wonder where it all went wrong Faith?

Boswick and Storie present a narrative of the Pegida members being the victims of unprovoked attacks on March 23. While it certainly was a raucous event with Pegida members outnumbered by 10 to 1, the story isn't really quite as clear cut as the two make it out to be:

Still, this particular bug has really gotten up their butts.

In the they posted where they are heckling Trudeau and Tory, you probably heard Boswick, Storie, or both talking about some sort of legal challenge. They discuss it in slightly more detail at one point:

That's right. They think they can prosecute Tory for a tweet and destroy "antifa" because.... freedom I guess:
